handling question

hi ppl, i was wondering if anyone here has ever taken a hayabusa to the track day events, if so the the real question is how did it handle being a heavy bike and all,.........pros/cons....... :icon_scra

i saw one the last time I was out there, the guy took off on every straight, but I caught up every turn...I passed him and i've only been there twice....I don't know what that means but just my two cents

Basically the bigger the cc's of the bike, count on it turning even slower in the tight stuff. I'd spoken to a couple guys who brought out there 'Busas at our track days and they basically said that it's very stable at speed, but a HANDFULL in the tighter stuff.

The R1's and Gixxer1000's out there are so close to the 600cc bikes in weight, but the rotating mass of a 1000cc motor will make the bike want to stand up that much more.

Now, with a 'Busa, you have that many more cc's than a 1000 + you have the additional weight of the bike to boot. For track riding, I would stay away from it, IMO.

that makes sence jeff, i thought about this question the other day cuz i hear and read alot bout ppl takin their Busas to the 1/4 track(as in the 8 in 8hrs article), but i had not heard of a any at the track days, hell anyone can see that the busa is fast at the 1/4, jeff did any of those guys have a mods to their bikes or were they just stock, i guess also did those guys have a good time on their busas over all at the track, were they just street guys at the track???


hey i also saw this guy on 45s and Fuqua haulin ass on the freeway he was on a red one, i think it was a limited one '04 model (i think), neway he was moving in and out of traffic and the damn freeway looked as is they were all parked, thats how fast he was goin and this was about 7pm on a friday

anyone know this guy??

Busa are in their element as a long distance sport tourer or a straight line freeway blaster, instances in which the bike's extra weight, superior aerodynamics at high speed (those fairings and tail section arent for aesthetics), and blistering power are perfectly suited...not on a roadcourse track with little 600's passing it every corner. Open classers usually dont do well against more track-oriented stock bikes, like race replica supersports.

For each riding style or need is built a motorcycle.. then again, there was a nice guy on an ST1100 at the last TWS track day :icon_thum

ya busa and tight turns normally don’t go together but i would like to have one because there so much more comfy on the freeway and a lot of torque but deff. not for a track day....

In addition to what jeff said, I have seen some guys w/Busas at the track that scratch up their fairings cuz when you pick up speed through those turns and have the bike leaned it's so wide that the fairings scrape on the side, of course limiting the lean angle and making you slower through the turn. I have been on both 1000cc and 600cc and I can tell you that the 600 you can throw around easily while the 1000 takes a bit more work to get around the corners. just my .02

man..u saw him? I was cornerworking and he made me :icon_bigg every time he came around..becuase he was not making any effort at all to go faster..and just kept cruising same speeds as if he was doing speed limits!
but then, i must say, I was equally impressed by both his dedication and patience :notworthy

normally anybody would start trying being fast thinking others would be looking at him in a funny way.. or else if they are not able to go faster, they would just quit..

I could see riding one on the street for sure. Speaking of the BIG bikes, everyone see the new Kawi ZX-14? C R A Z Y. Supposed to be the most powerful streetbike Kawi has ever made to date and the most aerodynamic as well.

I'm not liking the ZX-14, I also like the newer zx-12 more. The 14 front fairings look too much like this 80's relic....

Weird.

We'll see how the ZX-14 does at top speed, the hayabusa is the king of the wind tunnel with its special (but ugly) fairings. The 14 may beat the busa's topspeed just on sheer horsepower alone. But as the speed rises, the hp required to accelerate is the cube of the velocity...so past the busa's 186+ the kawi either needs a lot more horsepower or better aerodynamics.

I think that's what we've been tryin to tell you.... We don't have those big bike per say but the answer is NO, they DO NOT handle well at the track. When you get to the straight you'll eat people up but wait till you get to turn one it will be a different story. :nod:

The C group (Lone Star Track Days) or Group 1 (Ridesmart) will have all sorts of bikes in it. Just about any bike (exlcuding choppers) can bee seen in the beginner groups. You might see anything on the spectrum from a race-prepped 600 all the way to a Harley Road King (no kidding). Just about any bike is not out of place for a first time track experience. :icon_thum
