View Full Version : Wheel building?
Who here has built there own wheels before? I am thinking about attempting to build a set of 17's for the mini, and just want a heads up on what I am getting into. It already has 17's on it, but they are stock width, and I would be putting wider rims on. I think given enough time, I could probably do it, but is this something better left for a shop?

Powersports of Houston did a good job on my wheels. Had to order custom spokes from Buchannan in CA.

I did my 17's for the drz and all I did was just torque the spokes and when they went on the truing stand they were less then .01 off.
last spoke was hard.

I know Chris from my BMX days. He does motorcycle wheels also?
I think I can do it, it just might take some time. Since I already have 17's on the bike, can I reuse the spokes and nipples, or would I have to get a new set?
Also, does anybody know of a good place, or have the hook up, for some rims, probably Excel or Sun. Thanks.

i did it over a 12-pack and a lot of cuss words....i think it would have been easier to do if I didn't have to experiement with 3 different sized spokes...
hell give it a shot, the worst thing that could happen is you waste a night and decide to bring it into a shop the next day...

i'd call excel themselves: 760-732-3161, i forgot who I dealt with, but he was wicked knowledgeable about what hubs had how many spokes and what would work for my application.
