March 10 has come and gone. And what a day it was.
Started off with some showers, which subsided by about 5am. Around 6am, when people were getting up, the track was not dry but there was no standing water on it.

During the track meeting, RideSmart management laid out all facts on the table.
Ty Howard told us what his opinion was about the conditions on the track.
Then, Dave (school owner), put it up to a vote for all involved riders.

The choices were:
- cancel the event, and provide a full credit for all riders (Dave was actually going to lose half EMS fees, due to policy change at Cresson for this year).
- stay and ride

The vote was made and the vast majority of people did want to stay and ride (at that time, the rain has not come down for at least a few hours and it looked like the clouds were going away from Cresson).
So it went on.

The first two sessions were very tender and actually slow, but that quickly changed when the sun started peeking through the clouds. The track was starting to dry up early on, and it was hard to believe it was completely dry and devoid of any moisture at lunch. After lunch, each session had a blast.
Not only were the conditions great, they were improving with every minute.
After all, it was a great event, with a lot of riding for everyone involved.

Great job to everyone for putting this show on. Huge thanks to the corner workers for a job well done too.
It was also a very safe event, with no red flags during the entire day, and only a couple of yellows for a few seconds each. All riders were really riding smart and helped us keep the day safe for all.

Our next one will be held at TWS on 3.22.08 (and that one will rock for sure).
So far, we are proud of having completed two very successful track days, with many more to come. Hope to see you all soon.

:/:the vast majority

it was such a split that we voted 3x, then divided up and stood on different sides of the room to vote :keke:

I really appreciated Dave giving us the opportunity to decide as a group.
Thanks:thumb:

NP. After all, we all put up money to ride, and it only made sense to do this in such way. I was skeptical at first but when the sun started coming out, I was sold. Hope you guys had as much fun as we did.

That's awesome that Dave was going to offer credits if need be, But after last years events getting rained on everytime I decided to get a brand new set of rain tires, fuk it if it rains i'm still gonna ride. It's a long drive from San Antonio to get sent back home for nothing. But i fully understand if they choose to cancel the event RIDERS SAFETY COMES FIRST.

I'm going for sure on the 22nd, hopefully the new track management understands how bad of luck Dave had last year with all the rain we had. And hopefully they are understanding if he needs to cancel and gives him his money back.

they do have new management, so it still remains to be seen, but we are all hopeful they will have a positive and impartial outlook on all this.

Question:
How do you split up the times on the track between Levels 1, 2, and 4?

Thanks! :thumb:

too bad no voting happened last Novemeber when it was less than 40 degrees and raining constantly with areas of 6" rain puddles on the track.....:/:

That was because it was a Saturday event at TWS. TWS has a no cancel policy on weekend trackdays.

This was a weekday trackday at Cresson, so more options are available to make everyone happy. Ridesmart cancelled 2 events last year at Cresson due to rain and administered credits.

As has been stated in various other threads in the Racer's lounge, cancellation posibilities are mostly on track management and the venue, not the track organizations...:thumb:

...as dhd stated, TWS on Saturday was an automatic no cancellation, due to TWS cancel policy. I am sure RideSmart could have asked to vote on whether or not to ride, but I am also sure you would agree it would be silly to hold a vote for which you already know the answer to.
I was there too, and just like you, I lost my money and time for the day (I did not ride).

Unfortunately, rain is a part of this sport, and sometimes it does mean losing money, no matter if you are with RideSmart, or LSTD, or Texas Track Days, etc.

Let us all hope weather will cooperate more this year. Take care.

Yep. Saturday & Sunday trackdays are both good and bad. Great for not having to take off work (for most peeps) but also have the highest "risk" of poor weather policies.

Oh well. Such is life. Here's to a good weather season for all involved (riders and orgs):thumb:

Lets hope those instances are few and far between for everyone. At least we don't live in Seattle or something...:D

about how many riders are in the field during the level one group?

about how many riders are in the field during the level one group?

Depends on the venue. (ie- track length)

GSS- about 20
MSR Cresson - 25 ish (1.7 mile track, 35-ish on the 3.1)
TWS - 35-ish

I'm not sure about MSR Houston or Eagles Canyon. Those are bigger than Cresson, but smaller than TWS, so somewhere between 25-30
