Ok, I got to talking to Carbon last night regarding my soon to be 1996 Kawi KX 250 that I'm probably going to pick up tomorrow and naturally his mind went straight to "motard that bitch":D.

After thinking about it, if it's "relatively cheap" (does that even exist in this sport?:keke:), what all would be needed to make it track worthy to ride on the pavement? I'm buying the bike to get my "fix" on the dirt since I'm not made of money and can't afford to do as many trackdays as I'd like, however, I'm entertaining the idea of being able to "track" it out as well.

So, what would I HAVE to purchase to make it "dual" purpose?

extra set of rims with street tires?

would I have to do suspension upgrades?

here's a picture of the bike....

thanks for the help guys and gals:thumb:

you would want different wheels (although you can find street rubber to fit) for a better selection of tires.

you would want to probably upgrade your front brake to a larger rotor.

you'd want to change your suspension around, but you don't have to.

you should just leave it as is until you get enough dirt (if there's ever such a thing), and then get a designated motard in the future...when the money is all there, and you know that is what you really want. That way you aren't dumping money into something that you may not even enjoy.

WTF? Talked to this dude for 30 minutes yesterday afternoon, told him I would come by Saturday morning, he gave me directions, and then sold the f*cking thing last night. What a bitch! Had I known he wasn't gonna wait I would have picked it up last night....whatever, wasn't meant to be I guess.:hs:

Still got the address? :evil4:

J/K, that guy is an ass, I wouldn't waste my time paying him a visit....

GL getting another good deal, I'll look in the Waco area for you and can trailer it down if I find you a deal.

Are you stuck on Kawi 250? Shouldn't be too hard to find one for cheap out in that part of Texas.

change the suspension.....dirt suspension is WAY too soft for pavement running. different set of wheels w/ street tires

WERD...found another KX250 locally (Tomball) for the same price...one year newer and been ridden very little the last 7 years....hope it all works out cuz I'm tired of looking.

Thanks Hotnanas for the lead!!! Yet again.

Danny.....I wouldn't choose a two smoker 250 as my first choice for a motard. A 4 stroker will give much more usable power than a two. If that thing comes on the pipe midcorner, you'll be on your ass in a heart beat!

By the way...this is Tim. I'm posting on Dels log in.

In case that deal fizzles out too, check texasoffroad.net> forums > bikes for sale. Should find another deal or better, best place to shop for or sell a dirt bike around:thumb: (i'd post a link but sometimes that site does strange shit... Like now)

+1 to what cliff said, just use it for a dirt fix & save your $$ for a motard, you likely wont find a decent 4t for less than 2x what you have to spend.

I had posted a CR250 Honda that was street legal a few days ago. Check CL for College Station. I would say just run it with Avon Distanzias or similiar tires. Cheap way to try out a motard.

I would suggest a 4 stroke thought as mentioned above.

what is ANYONE's opinion of doing a trail/enduro OVER a mx for motard? like a yammy 180tr?

or a flat out 200?

I think its up to what you want to ride more. Trails, mx, or street.

picked it up...bike is in very good condition mechanically, although the tires, chain, and fork seals all need some attention (been sitting for 7 years and only ridden 4 times at best)....bike starts on 1st or 2nd kick each time. Gonna keep this one on the dirt for sure....bike has some ballz too it too. WOT up and down the bayou once or twice is telling me to keep this sucker on the dirt:nod:

Thanks for letting me dip back into the wedding fund babe! You're the best!:thumb::angel10:
