slight wobble at high speeds

I am new to riding and just got onto the freeway for the first time today. I noticed at speeds above 60 it feels like the bike wants to wobble a bit. Given that it was my first time going that fast it might be nothing but I figure it couldn't hurt to ask. Is there any reason for the bike to do this or is there something i should look at? The wind was blowing fairly hard today so it simply may be that.. but i dunno.

make sure you got correct tire pressure, your wheels are balanced and your head bearings are good. Have a good bike shop (ie MU) give your bike a once over.

make sure that your arms are relaxed and that you are not putting a lot of weight on your wrists or have a "death grip" on the bars. Stay relaxed. A tight grip on the bars amplifies a wobble.

yeah i've taken the MSF. I'll give it another go today and make sure i'm not putting a death grip on the bars. If it still does it i'll take it into a shop.

well groves in the road make the bike feel bouncy and wobbly sometimes, what kind of bike you got? check tire pressure? no bends in the rim? have you ever been on a flat stretch of road and took it past 60? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?:confused2:

What kind of bike? Describe "wobble"? Road surface? Do you know any experienced riders that could take it for a spin?

My rear tire was a bit low, that may have been it. I'm going to have a friend ride it later this week to check it out.

how much faster than 60? sounds like you were speeding :keke: that is your bike telling you not to speed its a built in warning signal :nod: slow down there bud :D

Probably just wind.

Check your wheel bearings and steering head bearing just in case.

It was pretty windy, so that may be it.

Check your tire pressure though. Especially with the recent drops in temperature, it can easily have a 4-5 psi. affect on it.

You didn't mention what bike you have, but I'd recommend 36 psi as a good starting point.

If the pressure is good and you're still having a problem, bring it by and we'll test ride it / diagnose it, free of charge.
