Astros thread

Ok, well since the Rockets are so depressing right now. Lets talk about the Astros this offseason. Look good on paper just like the Rockets did. Should be offensively explosive with the lineup we have, add a Mark Prior and our pitching staff is looking decent. But, just like every other Houston team (Minus our soccer team) I am prepared for everything to fall apart.

:nod: which is why i think we should have concentrated MORE on STARTING pitching help... we signed Kaz at 2nd but i wouldve been fine going with Burke..... younger and i think his number wouldve been productive now that he wouldve had the job everyday with Biggio retired.... and Adam Everett couldnt hit well, but his D was 2nd to none.... AND i highly doubt those 2 juiced up.... oh well...can only hope for the best and see what happens this year... Go Stros!

I haven't been payin much attention to the off season news, but with a remodled pitching staff and the additions of Bourn, Tejada and Valverde, me thinks this might be an interesting season but we'll have to wait and see how spring training goes

We haven't got Prior yet, but Mclain is pretty motivated to make it happen. Supposedly we offered him a very lucrative performance based insentive offer. Prior needs to sign somewhere with a deal like that to prove he has rebounded from his surgery.

I have to agree with njay, it is looking good so far. I thought we were going to be like the rangers a few years back, all offense no defense, but it is starting too look a alittle more promising.

Dont' tell me you are just as good at baseball as you are football? We have pitching, the cards just have to fall right. We got Roy O, Woody Williams (which is capable of good numbers), Wandy Rodriguez (whigh is getting better) and Brandon Backe (which if he comes back 100% will probably end up #2) so it isn't that bad, and we have enough offense to overcome most of the pitching problems.

i'm going to both exhibition games... i think. for sure saturday, but i don't know about friday. i have 2 tickets (crappy seats, but i might get club lvl passes too) and :angry7: spence wasn't sure if he was up for a 7:05 game since he gets off at 7. 4 tickets and passes for saturday (fan day)! woo-hoo!!!

Well, batting looks solid, their pitching is freakishly scary. We'll see how the season pans out.

I'll make my preseason prediction...3rd in the division. Will miss the playoffs.

Of course, I hope they make it, but I just call it how I see it.

3rd in the division sounds about right. 2nd at best. They have been really up and down. I can't get a feel on them yet. We will see. They could pull it together and go far, or just stay crappy. I think we are looking at the Rangers of the 90s. All offense.

I haven't really followed the Stros since the Rockets heated up, but looks like Pence, Berkman, and whats his face have had decent spring training. Roy has looked like himself, the rest of the staff have...well....been bland.

You guys see that Badke is leading our team in ERA and Ks? One more guy steps up and we may actually end up with a good pitching squad too. We can't rely on Roy O and Badke only though. We need at least one more good one. Hopefully Badke can give us a full season too. go Stros!!!

Our bats are showing glimpses of hope every now and then, but its our pitching that is scaring me. Yeah, its looking as if we can score some runs, but if we can not keep them off the board then what good does that do.

We still have plenty of more games left, so I am not too worried, but Roy O needs to get back to his form and find out what is wrong, whether he is tipping pitches or if his location is off. They just need to start playing better all around.
