Mine right now is almost three years old. I'm about to buy another one, but I'll still be using my current X-11 as well.

I go by the 5 years/ too many scratches rule. If it looks all jacked up (and I take really good care of my lids), I'll replace it. If it touches the ground with any force or impact, I'll get a new one.
I don't eff around with my helmets and protection. It's a little drop in the bucket compared to a helicopter ride and NICU stay.

NICU????
A neonatal intensive care unit, usually shortened NICU (pronounced "Nickyoo") and also called a newborn intensive care unit.
Just how old are you?:rofl:

It's not based solely on time - if it takes a hit with your head in it, it needs to be inspected or replaced. If it never takes a hit, then five years is about right.
If you ride enough, it'll be plenty ripe before that and you'll need a new one anyway.

I only buy lids with removable liners so I don't have to deal with stank. :thumb:

Funny thing is that mine never stinks... my current helmet has like 20k miles on it and has about 14 trackdays (where i sweat a ton). I'm not sure if Arai has some anti-stank liners or what, haha... but it never stinks. :eek3:

my kbc stunk bad....I had to wash the liner at least every 2 weeks...I have had my shoei for 9 months now and have yet to wash it...no stank at all. Maybe there is some miracle anti-stank additive in the high end stuff.

You're telling me... I paid over $500 for my Arai (Haga replica) and it's an awesome helmet, but there is no way I'm dropping the extra $$ for a replica again. I'll probably just get a plain red Quantam this time.

A little Fabreeze works wonders if your helmet's liner isn't removeable.

there is no written rule that i've ever seen saying when to replace a lid (if it's not damaged in a wreck) but i go w/ Arai's 5 yr warranty. and replace my lids after 5 yrs wrecked or not.
