Some of the religious laws in other countries severely limit personal freedoms. :angry7:
Here in the good ole USA, the gov't isn't taking religion OUT of our laws- they are trying to LIMIT our freedoms by telling us there is, yet, another thing we cannot do in public. We do not like being told what we are not ALLOWED to do- ie: pray in school, in court, love God, etc... :banghead:

Islam (Arabic: الإسلام; al-'islām (help·info)) is a monotheistic religion originating with the teachings of Muhammad, a 7th century Arab religious and political figure. The word Islam means "submission", or the total surrender of oneself to God (Arabic: الله, Allāh). An adherent of Islam is known as a Muslim, meaning "one who submits (to God)".[1][2] There are between 1.1 billion and 1.8 billion Muslims, making Islam the second-largest religion in the world, after Christianity.[3]

That's not accurate. You are allowed to pray anywhere you want. What has been removed is the state sponsored religious activities. BIG difference.

That's bs- you'd be shot.
Sure you can pray, as long as nobody can hear you- and I agree in separation of church and state, but if some kids at a sporting event want to pray they can't because some other kids don't want to? SO DON'T! That's not state sponsored religious activity, it's a sports event. NOT a big difference. Having the ten commandments in front of a courthouse does not hurt anybody- and it's not state sponsored religion... if it's offensive to atheists- don't f'ing read it. That is not what separation means.
I don't like the gov't making any laws that affect my life at all. It doesn't mean I don't follow those stupid laws, though.

When I went to church as a kid, everybody was praying quietly. :dontknow:

Now you are a bit confused, I think. Or you are just confusing me. lol If it's just a sporting event and they choose not to do it, then they are just trying to be PC. Oh well.

As far as I know, the ten commandments are a part of christianity. The constitution says the government can not promote one religion over another. It's not just about atheists, but there are a lot of non christian people put off by it as well. Just because you don't mind it, doesn't make it right.
I don't like the gov't making any laws that affect my life at all. It doesn't mean I don't follow those stupid laws, though.
I don't like it either. What law is affecting your life? :dontknow:

For instance: at football games it is no longer legal to have a prayer before the game, somebody got offended. Isn't that my right to free speech, too?
Some people like to pray in groups. It says to do so in the bible- every church I went to the preacher led the prayer quite loudly.
Nearly every religion practiced in America believes in the ten commandments- it is NOT Christ based as Moses was Jewish. Having them displayed has nothing to do with Christianity, and just because you don't approve doesn't make it wrong. As I said before, don't read it.
Most of the laws that affect my life have nothing to do with religion. :)

alot of your so-called "progressive" (everytime i hear that word i wanna puke) schools will NOT allow prayer of any kind. there have been many instances of kids being suspended from school for passing out church flyers, having a group prayer, or even wearing a cross around their neck because other students found it offensive. its been a few months since ive read about the last one, but they do occur.

People can pray in school. I've never heard of ANYONE being suspended for praying. Now if they are handing out religious material in school, that's a totally different story.
I've also never heard of anyone being suspended for wearing religious medallions, i.e. crosses, stars of david, crescents.
And squoddy, what you are thinking of is the ban on school-led prayer. Teachers and student organizations can't lead a prayer. Instead, they have a moment of silence for everyone to do whatever they want to do.

"In God We Trust" was not added to our currency until the 1950s.
The reason it was added had more to do with McCarthyism than any kind of religious fervor.
