Well I get asked alot what it takes to get a 50 stunt ready and into 50 stunting , so gryphin gave me the idea to make a writeup to help everyone out.

Q: About how much will it cost me for to pick up a 50, and where can I find one
A: A used stock 50 can range in cost from 600(killer deal) to 1000. Good places to look are : houstonmotocross.com, craigslist , cycletrader

Q: what is the difference between xr and crf50
A: The main difference is the plastics and the year they were made. the crf50s are the newer models and on the 07's and up there is no air fuel adjust screw on that carb

Q: What mods do I need to turn a stock 50 into a stunt 50
A: There are alot of possibilities here but I will put my opinion

To start with the basics I would say you will need

big bar kit [when it comes to the big bar kit 2 routes can be taken here]
cost : ~$100-170

buy a complete kit already
this is a good route to take even though it might cost a bit more cause its a one stop shop. you will get everything you need to get started. Check ebay and the cheapest most common kit is the bbr kit. If you would like when you get the kit you can always put your own bmx bars on as the bbr bars bend easy
piece a kit together
This route might be a bit harder as you have to get all the needed parts yourself , but I will explain what to look for and get. For these parts depending on your preference I say buy used but in good condition. Below I will list places of where to look and order these parts

triple clamp cost : ~$30-50
http://www.faster-minis.com/images/320-xr5-0_lg.jpg
throttle cost : ~$10-50
w/o brake
http://tboltusa.com/store/images/crf50-billetthrottleRB.jpg
with brake
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/xr50_1960_16335968
I recommend getting a billet throttle as it wont crack and break like the plastics ones that usually come with the bar kit. when getting a billet throttle take note if it is 1/4 turn or full turn, again your preference here. Also check to see if the throttle has a built in front brake perch if not a cheapo lever will be needed cost : ~$3-8
bars
your choice of bmx bars here
grips
you choice of grips
possibly longer brake/throttle cable
Sometimes with bigger bars the front brake cable and the throttle cable arent long enough to reach w/o too much tension. ebay usually has both of these for dirt cheap

From there that is pretty much everything I can think of to build your old big bar kit. Like i said it might be cheaper , but more work to get everything and piece it together

street tires cost : ~$10-30/each
I recommend 3.0x10 tires on the 50 as it will be a wider tire and there will be no issues with swingarm rub.

As far as brand goes you can go the cheapo chin shins or whatever or get the good pirelli tires.

This will cure the some of the side to side wobble and low siding caused by the knobbies
heavy duty spring cost : ~$20-40/each
The main thing when getting these is it will be a red spring. They are usually all over the place also so its just get the best deal you can. this will stop making the 50 feel like its bottoming out while you wheelie cause your fat ass is on it

Those are the basics parts to get the bike setup comfortably.

Later upgrades can include:
stunt pegs
hand brake
heavy duty springs for forks
+1 fork legs
ishock in the rear
and any other bells and whistles that you choose

Q: where are good places to look for new/used parts
A: as i stated above when looking for parts alot of them you can get used and save yourself some money. some good mini forums where people and buying and selling 50 parts are

www.planetminis.com (this site will have the biggest selection they have a crf50 parts forum and a want to buy crf50 parts forum)
www.fiddylife.com
www.50riders.com

as for websites
ebay
xr50.com
50stunt.com

dont forget to check out of lovely sponsors who im sure give killer deals on all of the above :thumb:

Q: my 50 is having problems what do i do
A: ask josh
or you can check this link he recommended : http://www.danosbikeshop.com/technical.php?OID=mainTbl

Q: can i use a bmx peg as a stunt peg
A: yes you can use one on the left and still keep the tensioner, but if you try running 2 you will need a longer axle. i recommend getting 50 stunt pegs

That is all i can think of for now, if there are other questions post em up. Or if you have some other answers post em up.

I've got an old school yamaha pw-50 from waaay back. Raced it when I was in Kindergarten lol. Know if one of those would be worth a crap for using, it's just been sitting in the garage down at my dads for yeaarsss and if I could use it for this it would be a blast! As for what year I'm not sure, early 90's maybe? it was the white body/red seat and writing color scheme.. I'll go look on the interweb for some pics.

I wish! I'm about 2 1/2 hours away from Houston. Will hopefully be up there on Thursday picking up an SV650. And it looks like theres a possibility of moving up there for a job after next semester if shit doesn't pick up around here. Not to mention this bike needs to be taken apart and gone through again, it's been a few years since me and the old man had it running. But after watching all these 50 videos I know exactly what I want to do to this thing! I can't wait to head down to his place and pick it up! I'm not sure what kind of aftermarket support this old school one will have, but I'm sure I can adapt some parts or get the welder friends to make something happen...

didn't even think about it but my bike is full on auto. don't think it'd be worth a crap for stunting. Still I think I'll go get it running this weekend, would be fun to mess around with around the neighborhood. :eekspin:
