ok, got a deal on a bike that i couldn't pass up! :thumb: came with lots of parts, i don't even know what half of them are but i'll get it all figure out and in line.

I've got a couple of things on order just to get me started for now. (The bare minimum on order) Should be here in less than a week.

This is so exciting, i can't contain myself long enough to hold out until the project is complete. :banghead:

project-SMKX85!

Heres just a couple shots of "some" of the spares.

ok, thanks to "The Mad Scientist" Capafool i finally got my first spoke wheel laced, and trued up myself. not bad once you get over the initial fear of doing it.

heres the start! pic of old rim, took pics to get an idea of how to assemble the new up.
http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0798.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0799.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0800.jpg

so here we go with it all laced up. The tape is protection against scratches
http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0801.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF080deleted

Now for the truing of the wheel with my make shift tools.:D

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0804.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0805.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0806.jpg

So I did alot of reading on going tubeless and so here we go with that.
Went to O'riellys to pick up some special silicone (hope it holds)
http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0810.jpg

Now that it's trued up, its time to start sealing the nipples (:D) so no air can escape.
http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0811.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0812.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF081deleted

After applying the silicone, i let it dry for approximately 10 minutes and then overlay that with some special RED duct tape from Cycle Gear. thanks for the hookup Memo!

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0814.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0815.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0816.jpg

Now for the next step, i had bought a S.S. rear brake line for the 636 which turned out to be too short so, i thought i would put my hard earned money to use and install it on the project bike.
Here we are draining the fluid from the line.
http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0817.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0817-1.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0818.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0819.jpg

I removed the caliper to drain the old nasty stuff out and then refilled with nice new fluid.

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0820.jpg

Heres our brake line.

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0821.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0822.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF082deleted

the front brake line holder has been removed to relieve some tension.

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0825.jpg

And now time for the bleeding process.

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0826.jpg

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd297/smkx85/DSCF0827.jpg

Thats it for now girls, stay tuned for more.

Patrick, how soon can i have my forks back??:angel10:

Hopefully i'll have my tire in tomorrow and can test out my tubeless process.

i hope it holds but, i'm pretty confident that it will. The silicone i used is good for temps up to 600F, as i was reading all the products and guy standing next to me says, i have some windshield urethane in my car that would be perfect for that but you can call my company and buy a tube of it, I said, well, you have one in your car, is it for sale? he said yeah but i'm not in my car right now.

you think that rear line is gonna hold up very long like that? Does'nt look like it's got enough slack for the suspesion to travel.

trial and error. I saved the old one and was quite careful to remove everything just in case. I may pick up a longer one if that presents a problem or, i could see about moving something to accommodate its length.

I do want to get with Patrick and have him make me a front line tho!

*edit* Actually Tom, now that i have gone back to take a look at the picture, I stated that i removed the FRONT brake line holder thingy to relieve some of the tension and stress that is seen in the picture, that should allow more flexibility.

some new, different. don't want to hassle with the tube since the tires sidewall is so thick and heavy, it'll be a bitch to work with and besides, the title says "project" :D

so far it's held up, been about 2 1/2 hours and we haven't had ANY pressure drop. we'll see once it get to rolling and hit some bumps and things that might jar it. :thumb:

Only advantage is to not have to mess with a tube. and what i did to convert cost about $5 per wheel, so it's the same as the tube and the tube that ISN'T in there will never get punctured.

this is my rear wheel, as soon as it gets here, (i'm leaving work early :keke:)
i will be working Friday night to get the wheel laced, trued, and converted for a tubeless set up. I sure was hoping that i'd have it by Thursday but i'm not gonna be that lucky on this one.

I just need to get the forks back from Motorcycles Unlimited! :thumb: (pretty please Patrick:angel10:)

So what happens when you need to tighten the spokes?? Do you have to take the tire off and reseal

i've read that with this type of riding, (non jumping and minimal bouncing of the rim/tire) the chances of the spokes loosening are slim. It's possible tho and i'll cross that bridge when i get there.

hopefully, all will go well. I will def. keep you guys updated on it.

If you'll notice and prolly not a good enough picture of it, i have the seal extended past the nipple so that it SHOULD allow me to tighten if needed without any worries of it leaking air.

you guys worry too much, just do it to experiment and see what happens.

I fixed up a "Red Bull" Catch can "system" to the right side of the swing arm last night. :D

I'm tossing around some ideas in my head for a different bracketing method, one other than zip ties. I'm thinking of using a hose clamp or something similar to that. drill and tap a hole in the top of the swing arm for the attachment of the hose clamp. whatcha think?

Damn, i just thought of a sweet ass idea for the catch can but, i can't give it away just yet.

now i'm excited, i'll have to make a prototype tonight to see if it'll work.

i have a model airplanes fuel tank to rig up as a catch tank. i haven't done it yet. should be spill proof.

i think the redbull idea would work well, just make sure you put a large piece of sponge in it so when you crash it doesn't all spill out.

as far as mounting methods are concered, I think I am going to be using zip ties.

what shape is your fuel tank?

hotnanas

rectangular prism. I want to goto another hobby store to see if they would have a cylindrically shaped tank. It cost me $3, and has a cap that allows a few hoses to come in and also vent. i'd like to find a one way valve for the vent line.

Well, thanks to Motorcycles Unlimited and a whole team of wandering minds i have finally got it put back together for now.

took the forks to M-U for a swap on the fork seals which turned out to be a nightmare as Brandon pulled the forks apart. The internals of one of the forks were trashed b/c a nut came loose, tore up the shims, and the cartridge so we had to order new stuff. When the new stuff got here it wasn't the correct parts so, now what? After a couple of days running around to different shops to figure out what it was that i had, Patrick led me to the right place. Turns out that the previous owners had done a front end swap with a Yamaha YZ-85.. So now we got what we need to fix it. Thanks to Brandon and Patrick for getting me fixed up.

Don't you know? Red Bull gives you wings.

Actually looks like a catch can for fuel/oil...I'm sure James will chime in soon.

i just have it fixed "for now" as a catch can but, will make up something more worthy and nice... there isn't too many places to that i can put a catch can on so it's gonna be a bit of a project to do a proper one.

I've been running tubeless on my XR650 for about a year, so about 10,000 miles and had no problems. silicone dotted and smeared over every nipple, then 3 wraps of duct tape. I've had tires off twice and everything looks good! the only downfall is that I had to drill the hole out in the rim where the valve goes so that the tubeless valve would fit. I used the black rubber valves, however if you get the 'heavy duty' metal screw-together valves, you might be able to find one in the right size so you don't have to drill.

Bike looks awesome!! I'm going to pick up a cr80 today for the GF, maybe I can talk her into some sportsman tires for fun!

I don't "think" its required for the "minis" but is for the big bikes.. when we did the mini endur. with CMRA at OHR, we didn't have to change anything but our bike #
