I picked up a 2002 yz125 the previous owner torn the engine apart it runs great but if I shift up the shift lever will stay in the up position and vise versa...... I half to tap it back down to shift up or down again any ideas?:banghead:

sounds like something is binding for sure. Have you pulled the side cover off yet? That should be the first thing. Have a look and see if you can see something.

ive pulled the clutch out and removed side engine cover I can see everything but it seems like something that returns the shifter is missing like a spring?!?

Number 3 is the return spring.
