Help me out with these wheels

got some dunlops to put on the pitbike. When i put them on, i ended up pinching BOTH tubes so they both had a slow leak..:banghead:..took overnight to go flat. anyways, i couldnt ever manage to get the tire fully seated on the rim. The bead would be down all the way but there is always a little section that is to low and when your at any speed above 15mph you can feel it. feels like your riding on square tires (clunk clunk clunk)

So my gf said "ill take them by cyclequeer tomoro after class" I say ok and get them back 2 days later. Well they didnt do any better then i did....well ok they tubes hold air this time but the wheel is still not seated on the rim.

Whats the deal here. I know for a fact that they soaped the hell out of the tire cuz suds were left all over the tire and rim. Could the wheel be oversized since its a cheap asian knockoff?

What can i do to fix this?

i believe the tires are like 100 series for a 12 inch rim. the tires that came off of it are a standard 12 inch tire size, so i dont know what the problem is here but i cant ride it like this.

Might they be tubeless tires?

indeed....... now that you mention that, i bet the tubeless tire is a bit smaller inside diamter then a tubed tire......crap....

No, I think what is happening is that the tube is not inflating the tire enough or evenly enough at the bottom to cause the bead to lock.

so would that mean i need a bigger tube? I faught with it for a few hours the other day and no matter how hard i tried i could never get all of teh bead to sit on the rim. Thats why i finally let the girl take them to cg

No I think your going to have to find a way to go tubeless on the rim to get the tires to work.

FYI tubeless tires typically have a stiffer bead ring to allow for higher pressures during bead setting. It's a major PITA but you can seal the wheel off and use it as tubeless. I stress that it is possible, but VERY exspensive.

So then in the long run the moral of the story is.....sell the knockoff and get different mini, or buy different tires? maybe ill just throw the dirt tires back on if these wont work. At least i can still tear it on just not on the street....err...parking lot:angel10:

hypothetically speaking....what if one was to "shave" down the bead just enough to make it squeeze onto the rim. Would he die at 30mph.....lol

I doubt it. There is a thin metal wire ring that makes up the beading surface. If I did it, and this is all on you bud, I'd use a dremel with a sandpaper wheel. Take it slow and maybe just put a small taper on it first. That might be enough. Cut through the bead ring though and your screwed

well that experiment will have to proceed in a closed laboratory environment with the proper testing equipment.......

The bike is not going to be doing anymore than 30 mph TOPS. So i don't think centrifugal force is that great

patrick at MU always mounts my wheels with no problem. tried doing it myself also....and ended up pinching both tubes as well.

i have 17" tubeless slicks on my wheels......and i'm still running the tube :D (for a crf100)

ive run into this problem. before you go crazy with a dremmel tool, try some hardcore lube. we use something called loosey goosey. it works well. take the shrader valve out of the tube when you fill it (makes it easier to fill with air) just put in lots of air. it should go.

hardcore lube huh......well i dont have any loosey goosey (and i hope i never do.....haha) but what else could i use? White lithium grease? bearing grease? hairspray (like i use on my grips)

well ive only done one half (one bead) of one wheel so far and it looks like its going to work. I ended just using a EXACTO knife to slowly cut about 1/8" away from the inside of the bead while missing the bands. Cut my finger int he process cuz i wasnt wearing gloves but its not anything a little duct tape cant fix

I've mounted 12 inchers, 14 inchers, and 17 inchers at home without any issues of it not seating correctly. tubeless tires on all with inner tubes. I just made sure I soaked up the bead pretty good. If you're using tube wheels, you may or may not hear the popping sound when inflating (I've had both cases), since the tubeless wheels have a slightly different shaped bead design to alow the tires to fit/seat properly. This is especially true as the wheels get smaller. The xr100 17'' tires I mounted did the whole popping/seating issue, but my 12'' although seated, didn't pop even after inflating tube to a high PSI (on dunlops). Are you using 1.8'' wheels or 2.15''?

these are the stock knock off wheels, 1.75 front and rear i believe.

Looks like the problem is that the WHEEL has a sort of lip or hump that the tire has to get past before it can seat properly. Ohwell exacto knife works, just wanna practice whoolies, not anything fast or hard on the wheels/tires so this setup SHOULD be fine i think

90 PSI is required on my 12" 1.75's with 12" Dunlop tt91's and tubes. I spray on WD40. It also keeps the spoke nippes and spoke ends from rusting on the inside.

I air mine to 90 psi to seat them. Hear two pops as I crank up the pressure from the regulator on the compressor at a good distance away, then let it out to 22psi and off I go. WD40 helps a lot.

This is a common problem. I use the spray you put on spots before putting clothes in the washer. Spray n Wash or the equivalent. Then run it to 70 psi and wait. It will move out on it's own. Deflate to proper pressue.

premix of dishsoap and water should help...I just mounted 10" on the jr 50 with the help of about 5 guys...it was a pain in the ass. Pinched the first tube then went with the soapy stuff and it eased the installation process.
