problem starting my 50 [Archive]

i just picked up a 50 from some guy. when i went to go pick it up it started just fine. when i brought it home it started ok and rode it for a bit, but then it died on me i was assumig it was out of gas. i put more gas in it and then try to start it but it wont work. first dirt bike so i have no idea wats wrong..anybody have any ideas? thanks!

Choke? Sure you have it in the fully open position when the bike is warmed. If not, it will run for 1-2 minutes tops then crap out.

yeh all of that is good gas is on choke is on..it sounds like it wants to start but then it doesn't its like trying to start one of those annoyin old school lawn mowers.

try starting it with the choke off and crack the throttle open alittle.

make sure the choke lever is all the way down ... turn the gas on ... turn the key on .... now try again

theres a possibility that it can be flooded...wat can i do if it is?

if it sat all night it's probably not flooded anymore. leave the gas alone. lift the choke to the on position and kick it a few times. If it fires, reach down and turn the choke off and kick it again giving it a little fuel(NOT MUCH)!!! if this fails, ground the spark plug and check for a spark. Change the plug. You said it ran when you bought it. . .did you ride it or just let it idle?

i just changed the spark plug and it still doesnt want to start. i rode it wen i went to check out the bike and then wen i brought it home i rode it again and then it ran out of gas..so wen i went to put more gas in, it wouldnt start.

Now as far as yourproblem with turning it on...
I have a stock fiddy and it gives me problems sometimes, it's just touchy!!
I normally have to put the choke on to start it, sometimes I have to ride it a lil bit till it warms up with the choke on. And sometimes if the choke switch is fully on it will not start, so I have to put it at 3/4 of the way on. Try that and see if it helps!!

yeh i pretty much tried about everything with the choke...wen i had it half way it almost fired up but then it didnt..i dont know! im having someone check it out for me cuz i know absolutely nothing about fiddys.

who's looking at it for you?

are you giving it to much gas? when the choke is on and and you get full throttling it, mine will act funny.

-Try putting the choke a lil more than half not quit full, when you kickstart it give it blip of the throttle!

ill fix it for you but it has to be 2nite. im leaving town for work in the morn. also the frame is bent bad you can get a new one on ebay cheap. its not the forks as said in an earlier post. well call me if you want some help today 979-739-7839 jason
