Anyone use the Dunlop Sportmax D208 tires?...

My bike came with these tires stock. They still have some life on them but I have been starting to look for the tire I plan to put on the bike when they are finally worn down.

I was at Cycle Gear today during lunch browsing around (passing the time since I'm fasting and can't eat, ugh, lol). They have a SET for sale for $149.99.

I was thinking about possibly buying them since they are so cheap and put them on when my tires wear out. However, before doing so, I was wanting some opinions from users. I did a search on the net and get mixed results since there appears to be two different Dunlop D208s.

I mainly commute on my bike and ride for fun. I haven't been to the track (yet), but would like to eventually. I have done a few early morning twistie rides as well. I currently have about 4k on the tires and they are still not quite to the wear marks. Of course, I'd give up some mileage in order for the tire to reliably hook up in the turns.

Maybe it's b.c I'm not an aggressive rider, but I've yet to have any real issues with my current set. However, some reviews I read stated they tend to get slick quick once they wear.

Anyways, enough rambling... For my type of riding, should I consider getting another set of these tires since I've had good results with my current set and since a new set is dirt cheap? Or should I go with something else?

They are an awesome deal, I didn't know cycle gear was still running that promotion, I may have to go pick up a set. they are like last year's tires, and they are pretty soft so I wouldn't expect a whole lot of tread life out of em. but I had my bike leaned down dragging knee with em on the last set, so they defintely have the traction. I think they were stock tires on the 636 and other supersport bikes. comparable to michelin pilot powers or bridgestone BT-014's, etc

i have been running the dunlops for quite a while now, and have no problem with mine and would get myself another set when mine wear out. i would probably only use these tires strictly for road use though. on the track, there are a lot better tires but would cost you a little more for those tho.

Yes, $149.99 at the Greenspoint location. I went today to pick up a set BUT... come to find out, the fronts are 120/70s. My bike takes 120/60s, :(

So I had to pass. Sucks too b/c it's a hell of a deal.

I've ran a few different brands on mine. stone's, metzelers, dunlops, pirelli's.
the metz were prolly the best but none of em were perfect.
if I found something that worked perfectly I'd quit shopping around too.

Dunlop wouldn't be my first choice if II could have any tire I want, but at that price it's a hell of a deal.

I picked up a set from CG a couple of months ago, have put 4K on them, and they are holding up real well on the GSX-R 750. They prolly wouldn't get the same life on the Busa, but I have nothing but good things to say about them on the GSX-R.

I've pushed 'em pretty hard (for being on the street) and they've never slipped or spun up (well, unintentionally anyway.)

for a buck fifty I'd be interested in buying a couple more sets. Hell, that's less than a rear from most makers.

Good tyres and don't wear at the same fast rate as others. Unless you take your bike to a track you won't notice much of a difference b/w tyres.

My suspension has been set up with the 120/60. I was told it's not good to swap tire sizes from the original size and from what was on the bike when the suspension was dialed in.

Anyone have input on this?

That is a great deal. I have a set I bought for the same CG deal. I really like mine so far. If you do track days or you are an aggresive street rider some peeps may recommend other tires to you. If you are an average rider they should suit you fine.

i think moody was trying to say, how would you know the difference between tires if you have only ran dunlops? (in answer to blue91's questions about tire comparison)


and btw, i've ran dunlops, pirelli, stones, michelin, and metzler....for the street it really doesn't matter. they will all perform well. you'll probably run outta skill before you run outta tire.

BUT, if you just need that bit of confidence in your tires.....i wouldn't go with dunlops. there's a reason why bridgestone and michelin dominate MotoGP, AMA, and many club racing orgs.

it's basically the same question.......most of today's modern tires are based on technology/research used in "race tires".....so i'd back the technology/research that is doing something right.
