Dirtbike chains?

I need to replace the chain on my 2004 YZ250F. Do I need to get an O-ring or an X-ring chain? Whats the difference between the two?

My stock chain is a 112 link, if all I can get my hands on is a 114 or higher, how easy/hard is it to bust out the extra links?

Easy to get the extra links off if you have a chain tool and a dremel.

Most dirt bikes don't need a rivet link, so the clip should be easy enough to install. AFAIK, dirt bikes don't even need o-ring chains, but I've always used them on my street bikes so I continue out of habit. Not sure what the difference is between o-ring and x-ring is.

O-ring and X-ring chains will require less effort, and be a bit heavier. Old sprockets will ruin a new chain and vice versa, check out the primary drive kits from rocky mountain, lotsa bang for the buck.

The X and O Ring chains do the same function. They keep dirt from the pins on the links. The O ring has more drag than the X ring. The X ring is flatter and has a groove around the ring. Stick with either or. Don't go for a non sealed chain for the dirt. Non-ringed chains are ok in road race environments where there isn’t a lot of dirt and grime to get to the pins.

I got a new EK 520 O-ring chain off of ebay for $40.

Now I just need to pick up some new sprockets...
