So listening to all you guys, I took the MSF course (Beginner course) at Awesome Cycles this weekend.
It was fun, the instructors were really amazing and very professional, but my take on the course is:
-More than money's worth if you are new
-Well worth the money if you have some experience, but not TOO much, say under 2-3 years of riding experience
-Not worth the money if you have enough experience, say 4+ years. Yes, it is a good reinforcement of things you have been doing all these years, but you will hardly have anything new to learn. Experienced rider's course whould be a definite yes from me.
To reiterate, this is inspite of having a fantastic instructor. Its just that the course content is aimed at beginners, both inside the classroom and on the range.
Disclaimer:These are just my personal views. Also, if you do want to take the course, I would recommend Awesome Cycles to anybody.
Btw, I did manage a perfect score. :icon_thumright:

I liked awsome cycles ALOT. Its a good investment, lowers your insurance and you get a badass coupon to Cycle Gear and a cycle bell. I thought my instructors were awsome.

That's why we pretty much boycott them........Geico does give a discount and has lower rates also.

They were cheaper than others but no discount for MSF.

Yeh, that's been Progressive's deal. They claim their rates are so low that they don't need to give discounts. Nothing wrong with that, you can't really argue the point.
HOWEVER, they will give a discount if you join the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association), so in truth, they'll give you a discount for joining a lobbyist organization (albeit a very good one) but won't give a discount for a safety course.
That kinda throws their argument in the toilet.
Geico just started hitting motorcycle insurance really hard a few months ago. So far, everyone that we've sent over there has gotten a lower quote. They dropped my insurance by 17%. Now, I only carry liability and theft, so the dollar amount wasn't a lot.
I'm just saying if you haven't tried Geico lately, give them a call when your insurance is up and compare. They also give multiple vehicle discounts and a discount for switching from another insurance carrier. For the instructors on here, they also give an additional discount for that. And yes, they do stack discounts.
There's a link to an agent on our website if you don't want to go directly through the company.
My .02 cents

Hey, got a question. I've got a friends helmet that fits pretty good, it's a medium though and I wear a small, should I bring that one or just use one there? Also, at the class do they teach you how to lay down the bike and stuff like that?

Definitely bring your own helmet (I'll just leave it at that :laughing6:).
And, why would you want to lay down a bike?

Well I mean like if theres a proper way to avoid things, like how to fall so your foot doesn't get smashed by the bike when it falls or something.

I remember the classes having some pretty old and funky helmets.

By the way, what bike did you buy? I remember you hitting me up for my chicks 250 but didn't know what you ended up with.

Badman's 93 CBR for $1200. Needs some upper fairing, fairing stay, and headlight but other than that it's in pretty good shape. I took off all the fairings that way if I drop the bike I won't crack anything else. Figured i'd leave it like that till the first part of the dropping and learning stage is over.
I should probably go get some frame sliders for it. I called up Cycle Gear for some last week but they didn't have any in stock.
I'll post some pics when I get to riding it. It's just been sitting until this weekend when I take the class.

I just took the class with them last thur and fri. I have a little over a year of riding under my belt and I'm self taught. I have to say they showed me a few things that will change the way I ride forever. My instructors were David and Mike, they are two cool guys even though Mike rides a HD j/k. I'll be the first to tell you going into the whole thing I thought it was going to be a wast of time. Man was I wrong, its amazing how a few small tips can make somethings a lot easier. My cuz also took the class and he has never be on a bike before and now I don't have a problem leting him ride my bike. I had a good time oh yeah I got a 100 on both testes.* :hello2: :wav: :hello2:

So what exactly is it that helped you out that will change the way you ride if you don't mind me asking?

Like I said it's the litte things. My U turns are nice and tight now and I don't feel like i'm going to fall over. I had a bad habit of riding with my arms real stiff and they showed me how to loosen them up (was not part of the class but they watch the way you ride and can help you with the little things they see) The course built my over all confidence in my riding. Things like looking thru the turn. You know your suspost to, but the class lets you practice the technic (sp?) under the watchful eye of the instructors. The class mainly fine tunes you skills, and we all know that girls like guys with skills. LOL
P.S. If you take the class at Awesome Cycles and you have some riding experience try to get the little Yamaha TW 200 it's a ton of fun, it's a little dual purpose bike.
