To those of you ride cruisers,
What kind of gears do you guys wear? (Please be honest :gesture: )
I normally wear a beanine helmet with goggle, gloves, long sleeve shirt, jeans and boots.
Even though I'm throughly enjoying my first bike (Honda Shadow), I've just experienced 'bug in mouth' and 'mouthful of puddle water (a car splashing front of me)' :eh: .
I'm now considering to purchase a full face helmet and some padded jacket which will provide some decent ventilation. But, I don't want to look like a sport bike rider riding a friend's cruiser :keke:
Any suggestions?

Hmmm after giving this some though I think that I would wear a full face helmet I don't like Bugs or puddle water in my face, i have rode before in my squid days without a helmet and the Bugs hitting me in the face was not very appealing so now a wear my helmet all the time even if I'm going around in the mall from one store to another that maybe across the street I don't give a Sh$t what peeps think. It's all about safety man you have to live with the decisions that you make and nothing so cool that you should throw away your safety, I also believe that every one has their own right to choose to wear a helmet weather it be a full face, half or modular. I will always wear my full face even if I rode on a trike :laughing6 those things are hilarious to me

I'm one of the most geared up cruiser riders you'll meet and I wouldn't change a thing. In my two years of riding and commuting here in Houston the gear has save my bacon a few times:
Helmet
I wear a Scorpion Full face EXO 700 helmet. It's not just about the bugs. I'm my last two years of commuting I have been hit by rocks, lug nuts, and all kinds of crap off the Houston streets. All it takes is for a car to run over something in front of your and spin it off a tire.
Summertime Mesh Gear
I wear the Teknic Supermesh Jacket seen here:
http://www.teknicgear.com/catalog.php?styleid=1&pid=88
It comes with a complete set of CE armor.
I also wear First Gear HT Air 2.0 Overpants seen here:
http://www.firstgear-usa.com/fgweb.nsf/Products/8B39E37E56F4B1AE862571F0005BD179?opendocument
These pants are great. They have hip and knee armor. The hip armor saved me once when my bike fell over in gravel with me sitting on it. I didn't even get a bruise from a 540 lb body slam.
Plus jeans will wear through after sliding only 5 feet at 50 mph. I'm sure First Gear makes a good mesh jacket so if I was to do it all over again I'd probably take a look at one of their jackets so it would zip to my pants easier.
Warmer Weather Perforated Leathers
I just recently bought perforated Vanson leathers. I intend to wear them in place of the mesh when I can. Vansons will break the bank, but Newenough.com has some great closeouts on jackets right now. And Mike over at Northwest Honda is hooking me up with some Vanson pants and body armor.
Winter Leathers
Leather is the best. Most of the cruiser stuff that's sold is not cowhide though and so it doesn't really hold up in the event of a slide.
In winter, I wear leathers from Teknic that zip together. They are cruiser styling but track leather quality (1.4mm cowhide).
They don't make my jacket any more but it's similar to this:
http://www.teknicgear.com/catalog.php?styleid=2&pid=22
These are the pants I have that zip up to the jacket:
http://www.teknicgear.com/catalog.php?styleid=2&pid=19
Together, this combination is comfortable from 37 degrees up to 78 degrees. Both the jackets and pants will carry CE armor which I have.
I think this set up looks pretty mean on cruiser:
http://www.staging.andell.com/bike/track-day/originals/258.jpg
Gloves
I have 3 sets of gloves depending upon the kind of weather I'm riding in.
Best place to get cruiser gear in my opinion
Biker's Passion across from Ellington Field near Clear Lake. It's a mom and pop shop. Johnny knows his stuff and is one of the few places I found that actually stocks leather overpants and not chaps. (Chaps don't cover the most important parts). He also carries the mesh gear I mentioned, although I think he had to order the pants for me.

I'll be checking out 'Biker's Passion' later next week.

I think you'll like what you find at Biker's Passion. He'll be less than the list price that most dealerships charge, but slightly more than on-line places. However, being able to try gear on for the proper fit before you buy it is a great advantage. Sure on-line may be a little cheaper, but the minute you have to pay for return shipping you've generally wasted your savings. That's why I usually try to buy from the place where I tried something on cause I'm willing to pay a little bit more for that service.
Buying gear is fun cause you're getting cool new toys for your motorcycle habit.

I've been slacking lately BIGTIME! I really need to get back in habbit of wearing my helmet and leather. I also need to slow down and stop smoking but you know ... The gear I CAN NOT ride without are goggles, boots, pants, and gloves. I got caught in the rain Thursday afternoon and was missing my 1/4 helmet in a big way. The googles I have suck for the rain also as they leak in my eyes and then hold the water there. I need to stop buying chrome and invest in some new gear. I really need a mesh jacket! My leather jacket is old school riding jacket and gets extremley hot in the summer.
riding tip: Keep your mouth closed and you will eat less bugs and drink less road water.
Any suggestions on good googles that actually keep the rain out of your eyes?!

Have the same bike but red/black color scheme.
Yup, full gear on a Magna looks fricken awesome imo too.
I usually wear mesh Cortech Jacket, HJC full face, full fingered gloves, blue jeans, and SWAT boots (yup, the ones the cops wear).
Sometimes I'm guilty of no jacket and some tennis when I go to the gym just 3 miles from my house. eh.
Anyone invested in the riding pants that are denim? Cortech and Icon sell some, but I'm pretty picky about how my pants fit.

That's pretty close to what I wear. Either black fieldsheer mesh or black alpine star vented leather w/ a flat black scorpion helmet. I think it would look fine on a cruiser.
I wish I could get my dad interested in wearing better gear. I'm not to confident in his kevlar harley bandana...

This morning riding to work, a road debri hit my helmet with a big thump where my jaw would be if I was wearing a half melmet.
After getting to work, I checked my helmet and was amazed that there was a big scar about a dime size on the helmet. :eek3:
Oh yeah, I'm glad I started wearing full face. :thumb:

A 3/4 helmet with full face shield will prevent most of those bugs & small rocks from hitting your face. Lots cooler in summer too. I have a Scorpion silver EXO-200 but I'll always reach for the full face if I'm going to be out all day. All black helmets look cool but are unbearably hot with the sun beating down on them for hours. Perforated leather jackets seem like a good idea but above 90 degrees they're too hot. I only wear mine for a short time in spring & fall.

60+% helmet hits are to the chin area. the least hit area is the top of the lid.
90+ deg. , i wore an unperforated textile (vansons) in 100+ deg. , so lets not get into "it's too hot" BS.
your skin, you make the choice, but skins not cheap and very painful

I seem to be solely keeping the helmet industry in business and Patrick has setup a special helmet purchase program just for me. :keke:
I will add this about the stat on chin area impacts. I have wrecked on a dirt bike with a full helmet and had it crack and smack me in the face. That was my first set of new teeth. Now imagine it just being your face that smacks the ground. Ouch!

I've never found that to be the case at all when riding. Just don't stop for hours out in the sun and leave your helmet on :D . Otherwise, a black full face works fine all year long - especially one with decent ventilation.
