LA City Council implementing 'nuisance vehicle' municipal code.
Anyone read their July Sport Rider yet? Andrew Trevitt in his "Full Pin" commentary reports that the city has passed a nuisance code that allows the "police to seize and crush any vehicle used in speed contests or exhibitions of speed; in fact, the ordinace states that simply owning, leasing or maintaining a vehicle used as such constitutes a public nuisance, and your vehicle can be seized based on probable cause that it was used in a sped contest or exhibition of speed. Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky has asked for a similar ordinance to apply to the Santa Monica Mountains in order to send a message to the people racing and stunting in the canyons."
Trevitt also pointed out that suspicous oil slicks have appeared on several corners on SMM & Palomar from residents 'fighting back'.
The ordinance seems so vague & broad that LEOs could take any sport bike they wanted. Hopefully, officers don't abuse this. I'm thinking an aftermarket exhaust could be probable cause someone races; a sport bike could be probable cause someone stunts.

thing is the riders are doing this to themselves so really there's noone to blame but the people going 170 and doing stunts up the freeeway. that's why i love the track don't have to worry about people that don't like speed. cause everyone there does. Most of them more than i do. :icon_thumright:

i read that article just yesterday. it was good. and it also goes to show you just how the people have a vote and it counts. the poeple all got together to make that happen cuase they were tired seeing it and cops couldn't do much. well now the cops can do a whole lot more, and the people got what they wanted. lets just hope this doesn't happen over here.

thats not cool.
i can see why they would want to crack down, but they took it a bit far....its just too vague.....if anything it gives people more reason to run from the cops if stopping means getting your bike crushed!!!!!! :eek3: :yeahno:
man, it just sounds a little too vague...just like some of the rights pointed out in the bill of rights...take for instance freedom of speech, you really are as free as the next person to say anything just as long it doesn't offend anyone...like if someone gets offended with the word "damn" or something. What if someone considers a nuisance having a loud pipe...would that mean that your bike or automobile will get crushed because someone didn't think it was appropiate. I mean, what's a nuisance to me might not be to another individual. This might have serious repercussions...

this acually is starting to look like a trend. a bunch of people get together and make laws to help solve a problem, when it acually creates another one. too much in society do we jump the gun and do serious things without thinking it out. after reading some posts, i agree that they definelty should be more specific. but i still like how the people got together and stopped something. you just don't see that much anymore, at least i don't. this is what makes this a great country. now we just need to get all the bikers together and have the city make us a stuntpark!! with lemonade and cookies for all. and naked strippers!! :icon_thumright:
