I just wanted to post up our experiences with the BRC my girlfriend and I took at Awesome Cycles this weekend. We had a GREAT time and learned a LOT.
I've been riding for 3-4 months, self-taught so far (learned a lot from reading old posts here on MH). I started on my R6 and I know it's not considered a good first bike to have. Knowing this, I decided from the beginning that I wanted to take the MSF b/c I want to be as safe as possible and don't want to be another statistic if I can help it.
My girlfriend has ridden with me and wanted to take the course too. She did it for two reasons. She wanted to learn what I go through as the driver while she is a passenger in order to have a better understanding of what to do and what not to do when she's riding with me. Also, she wanted to learn to ride also so one day we could get her a bike as well (once she has much more practice off the streets).
We took the 3 day course (Fri evening, Sat and Sun). After completion, I'd definitely suggest the Fri-Sun course since it gives you more time to digest some of the info on Fri night before riding on Sat. David Y (Challen) was our head instructor and David D. was the co-instructor for our class. They were both awesome guys in regards to personality, instruction, patience, and safety. The classroom wasn't like other "boring" classroom envrionments. They made it very interactive and interesting. Out on the range, it was the same. D.Y. continuously had the class laughing and relaxed, while instructing us on proper technique the entire time. Both instructors continously gave positive comments when something was done correctly and they gave good tips and suggestions when something wasn't done perfect. I was truely impressed by the environment.
My girlfriend did great (100% on her written test and 3rd highest in the class in the riding evaluation). I am super happy that she did so well and is excited about continuing to learn how to ride. Supportive wives/girlfriends make it easier for us guys to enjoy riding. I thank the guys at Awesome cycles for this.
Lastly, I know I will be a much better rider after taking the course. While I've been careful and slow since starting to ride, I learned much more in the BRC, which I know will help me be even safer on the roads. I can't wait for this weather to get better so I can get practicing the manuevers we did in class on my full size bike!
Thanks again to everyone involved in this AWESOME school. I recommend it to ANYONE looking to take the BRC. I will definitely be back for the ERC after I get more practice and experience!
