BTW, I'll be there on the red/white F4i. (The Flying Candycane)

Yeah, I'll just be out there for the trackday though I'll probably come and watch the races... slow old me will chill in the B group. Just trying to keep times down below 2:08s until I can get my new suspension. (Spent $350 on crown molding last night so there goes my RaceTeching I had planned before the trackday. :eh:)
Henry/Charles if you need any help in your pits let me know. I'll swing by and lend a helping hand for you.

What's up Brandon? I'll be bring the F4i in for new brakes and possibly a new front tire before the trackday. I'm going to try and talk to wifie into letting me get the forks done then as well.
Unfortunately I promised her I'd put up the crown molding asap, and that was about 1 month ago. So, since Sunday is our 1 year anniversary I told her I do it for that.

Screw passing on the outside..... especially with noobs.... you will get to know the dirt real good that way.
I agree... I'd do B. You'll get to see faster riders, you'll learn from their lines and you're already doing 2:12's so that's a normal B group pace.
It's going to be a fairly quick group because it's right before a race... but think of it as a learning experience.
I think it's better to be the 'slow' guy around better riders than to be the 'fast' guy around slow riders... besides, I'm not pushing anymore so I'll just be doing 2:08 - 2:10's probably.
Capafool
06-28-2005, 04:12 PM
as steve said.. the 29th is right before race weekend so it will be a fast paced group. I dont yet know if I am gonna run A or B group but if you're caught being the slow one around the track they may consider moving you to C. I am saying this because I have seen it happen. If you think you'd feel good in B then go for it, otherwise C would be your bet. just my opinion. :dontknow:

as long as you don't panic mid corner and can adjust your lines you should be ok...
no matter what you hear... if you're riding in 'b' group on a friday before cmra weekend and your times are > 2:05's you will get stuffed... i fricken guarantee it... the pace is seriously raised...
and you will hear people say a bazillion times, 'just hold your line'... but i can tell you... PLENTY of times out there - if i would have held my line BAMO!...
so you also have to be able to change your line - MID CORNER... if you can do both safely... sure... step on up man...
i'm sure you'll like the faster pace... :eek3dance:

Well..... I am going to make an ass comment here but lets see what happens. :tongue5:
I think at this point with Syd and his riding at the track, he is going to need all the confidence in the world. It is the only thing that will get you around the track faster. I guess there is a fine line to walk with confidence and over confidence. :dontknow:

assssssshhoooooooooooooo!... j/k...* :keke:
syd's hoverin around 00 these days... ran prolly a 57 best at the last track i day @ tws...
2:15's aren't slow for provnov... b/c if you crash - no license... so most peepz don't push it until after they've got their "must race two race weekends without a crash" done...
he can run low 2's all day long... but to get to the next level - i think he's on the right track... hangin w/ty certainly can't hurt...
plus you guys need to remember the guy is racing w/a stock suspension...* :eek3:
confidence is there... patience and a suspension setup are what i think he could benefit from the most...
whereas *I* could probably benefit from... a hacksaw!... so i could saw my 520 lb bitch down!!!... ugh!!!* :cussing:
sorry... sorry... zen happy place... i'm gonna buy an sv in the offseason... gonna buy an sv in the offseason...

Suspension builds confidence. Of course you can always be confident in your riding and not be an ass... i think that is the ultimate goal. :icon_thumright:
Steve O Chap
06-30-2005, 09:11 AM
Syd is quick, I'll give him that. But I think he's trying to accomplish too much in too short of a time. He's got natural talent at riding and he's around some good riders which is going to help out a ton.
I completely agree that confidence is everything... but over-confidence is very detrimental. Suspension isn't the reason he's crashed in 2 of his last 3 trackdays.

i don't really have a problem with you guys trying to get better, but guess what if i had an over confidence problem, i woulda wrecked my 2 races i've raced... but wait, i didn't wreck did i?
it took you quite a while to come up with that comeback didn't you... i don't really care, i was just making a goofy ass jesture, and you're going to patronize me with your pos takeoffs? like i said before, i'm confident that i'm quick, and i'm getting quicker everytime i get on the track... i have confidence when i ride, but i know how far i can get with my skill, hence why i havent gone in hot, i've lowsided cause of dirt and water, big whoop everyone goes down.
btw you're forgetting who offered to help you, and now you're trying to talk trash cause you got a sponsor? i don't really care, ya i'm jealous and wish i could get a sponsor like that, but it ain't in the cards for me yet, and hopefully i'll get it someday soon, cause that's the only way i'll be able to get better so i can go on the track more with some funding

btw you're forgetting who offered to help you, and now you're trying to talk trash cause you got a sponsor?* i don't really care, ya i'm jealous and wish i could get a sponsor like that, but it ain't in the cards for me yet, and hopefully i'll get it someday soon, cause that's the only way i'll be able to get better so i can go on the track more with some funding
is that a apology

Syd... calm down buddy.
Opinions are like a$$holes... everyone has one and everyones stinks. You don't have to agree with them. Anyone can say what they want and you have the right to disagree.
We know you're quick, we know you're improving and I think we all want you to do well. But from your words you post and say, yes... you are over confident.
Luckily for you, you have good personal instructors and have some natural talent. I wish you the best of luck, but I don't want to see you get hurt... apparently I'm not as fast as you but I've been around riding a bit longer than you and I know I've seen worse than you when it comes to people being overconfident. So just don't try to force your learning curve, it will come with time.

I read something about your learning curve, I think that's good advise. Pabst214

also for anyone who cares to read..... in my opinion B group is probably the most dangersous group on the track.... in this sport there tends to be EGO problems. this explains my opinion above. you take a guy he rides in c group his first time feels like he shouldnt be there because this aint cool man i'm in the beginer group i'm no beginer..... blah blah blha but he doesnt have the skill nor mental ability to move up to b, so he does anyway next time. now you take away the instuctors being up your ass the whole 20 minute session put the guy on the bike and tell him to go get it, you now have a guy by no fault of the organization out there on the track trying to prove something to somebody putting other people in danger. i have riding in all groups, if you want to go fast ride in c until you are smooth entering, mid and exiting the corner.. your lines should flow.... everything should come easy you shouldnt feel like you have to work the bike..... then take a B see how you feel. and move into A. if you plan to stay in this sport you better get used to being passed and passed close..... riding in A group is not as SCARY or as big of step as some make it seem. everything flows in that group.... you have fast guys really fast guys, and then some moderatly fast just track day guys..... A group gives you time to focus on your riding and not everyone else's. you can concentrate on being more smooth, picking up entry speed everyting that you need to work on with out worrying about the guy in front of you parking it in the corner, or somebody running you off the track by not holding there line. riding on the track becomes way more fun when its about you and not you worrying about everyone else.
sorry for the post i just was reading some previous and had thought that some people werent sure on what group to be in. i got the impression that people think that A group means you have to be a sub 2 minute guy and that is not right at all..... ride where you feel comfortable but do not be scared or intimmidated to move up.

I think what Brandon is trying to say is this; if you've never been to the track don't be in a huge rush to get out of C group / not take C group at all. After a couple of times in C group and you know the track fairly well, then bump up to B.
That said, once you're in B and you've done the track a couple of time at some speed and can hold your lines because you know where you're going, B don't be afraid to move up to A, just expect to be passed closer there. B group presents challenges because the skill level there is very diverse. Closing speeds entering the corner can sometimes be tricky when the rider in front of you is slamming on the brakes because he doesn't know where he is on the track.
Which is why a rider should stay in C to be able to learn the track, but a lot of riders let their ego negate the learning opportunity that C group provides.
If you're really unsure that the group you are in is right for you, ask one of the LSTD instructors to evaluate how you're riding.

to piggy back on what brandon and patrick said.. which is great advice for those thinking they're the shit.* YOURE NOT!* and you dont have to be, there's no need to be, you're not getting a trophy.* I can use myself as an example I guess.* I can run well under two minutes, but ive actually ridden B group more than anything.* Is it cuz im scared to move up? NOPE. Is it cuz im not fast enough and cant hang w/the big boys? NOPE.* I ride B because its the group I feel best at without having to do all that hauling ass you do in A.* I have ridden A various times too and I pass plenty of people in that group, but even though I can and have done it, I still ride B mostly.* I feel like I can work on my lines, braking, form, etc. in this group better than any other.* When I am ready to focus just on speed above all I will certainly ride the A group. just my two cents..* :icon_thumright:

Arturo,
I wasn't referring to anyone in particular but I will add this for you;
Yes it's a track day, and the speeds are somewhat off "race pace". But, if you've never ridden TWS before, I'd still take C group to orient yourself with the track. Riding the track is different than the street. The track is designed to challenge / fool you. It's much braoder in a lot of places and the reference points are not as clear as on the street where there is roughly 15' of lane.
One of the most common causes of novice track crashes is becoming "lost" in the corner. Being in the middle of a high speed turn and not knowing where the line is can be not fun / catastrophic.
Some people, very few, can ride a track once and pick up the pace right off, Brandon is one of those people, sometimes it's just amazing to watch him go. He also has the unique ability to immediately input any change we give him about lines, braking points etc., but as I said, he's more of the exception than the rule.
As long as I've been doing this, this is what works for me: Whenever I go to a new track I'll take a couple of laps to get my bearings and then start working on a couple of corners at a time to drop seconds.
Whatever group you decide on, have fun, don't try to pressure yourself to go too fast too soon, and don't try to learn the whole track at one time.

I like B group... it works for me, I've done like 5 trackdays in B group after 1 in C group. I* generally pass quite a bit more than pass me (MSR was the exception). I run consistent 2:08s so until I upgrade my suspension or tires... until then I'll just stick with B.

I FOR ONE SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN B GROUP I was a bit hot headed and went in there with the wrong frame of mind. also it's good to listen to the instructors which i didn't do and i think in the end it hurt me. so if it were me again I'd stick with c group and ride it out for a while then move up.
jsut my 2 cents

patrick hit the nail on the head with the point i was trying to make. sorry for the confusion in the post i seem to have a problem when i talk on here. i forget the person is not right in front of me and cant follow the conversation. i'll work on that one. for those of you that enjoy B group, have at it id say 90% of riding out there is being comfortable. just remember that part of going faster though is pushing that comfort zone close the the end. i hope everyone has a great time, ohh yeah and please if you dont know me stop by the motorcycles unlimited trailer and say whats up that friday.... later dudes

whats the price for those lap timers and can i buy one somewhere and have it still pick up times at TWS, MSR, NPR?
is it a special beacon?

The lap timers rent for $35.00 and sell for $220.00.
They are compatible with all beacons that Ridesmart, LSTD and the CMRA use at all of the tracks.

Yep. Because we're not a track day organizer like Ride Smart we don't have a "guaranteed" number of people renting from us so it's not something we have a good ROI on. We actually started renting them because some of the guys at the track saw we had them for sale and wanted to rent them. It's not something we really pursue.

I had a blast Friday,, Carlos and Gianni are fast as hell, scared me when they blew by me in T1, the 636 was totally awesome,, that thing is fast as hell, the tires sucked (continetal contitracs) the tire compound was hard as hell, they kept spinning, it was kinda cool knowing that i was spinning up the rear kinda like backing it in, i almost lost it in the last turn with a highside but kept calm and rode it out, had to let off in the front straight due to tankslappers , that thing needs a steering damper bad,,, but i was kicking ass out there, my back has been sore all weekend long i rode C and B group for two back to back sessions each, that wore me out quick, i was starting to get fatigued, waiting my wrists on the bars so i decided to quit before i crashed out, it was hot as hell but i had lots of fun,,,
nice to meet you finally Steve O, seen alot of improvement with Arturo and Javier, you guys were looking good out there,, got some nice shots of you guys at T10, Gianni, you are so freaking fast. cant wait to go again..
