Hey, my neighbor has a 02 Shadow 600. Small CC size but he's got it priced pretty cheap. $2900. 6000 miles. Has a nice burgandy color. Just letting you know. Its super clean. Saw him when he unloaded it a few weeks back.

You'll have a hard time finding metric cruisers that are fuel injected unless you're looking at very recent models. Harley has fuel injection on some of their models but I'm not sure how far back they go.

Whats wrong with carbs?
If you ride once a week for at least 15 minutes a time, carbs are not bad. But if you don't ride frequently, they can gum up with gas and cause issues with low idling or performance altogether. The sensitivity depends upon the model/type of bike. Sometimes they can be fixed by running a fuel additive such as Sea Foam. (I know owners who swear bit it and keep in their tanks to help stabilize the fuel also.)
Another issue of course is tuning. Changing pipes or other modifications to the bike often require the carbs to be pulled and have the jets changed. As opposed to fuel injection where you can use a power commander to change the mapping.
That's my very basic knowledge of the differences.
I ride fairly frequently and don't have an issue but I have had to deal with carbs gumming up before and it is NOT fun. Fuel injection would be nice, but if the bike is unique enough I wouldn't get rid of it in favor of another "me-too" bike that has fuel injection.

Not to dis your neighbor's bike, but the Shadow 600 is a 4 speed. It was originally designed when the speed limit was 55. Consequently, it's made to cruise well at that speed. Owners that I've talked to have found it lacking at today's freeway speeds.
I think if you're coming from a 929 inline 4 to a 600cc V-twin 4 speed you will be sorely disappointed. I mean, I know you want to slow down... but that's almost like jumping from a racing bicycle to a tricycle.
Just my two cents, of course.
For $2900 I could help you find a Magna! :icon_thum

yak, yak, yak, yada, yada, yada...
All the BS aside the VT750's are some of the best middle weights out there. '03s can be picked up in the ~4 thousand dollar range.

I have a family member who has a '95 Honda Shadow ACE 1100 for sale. 10,000 miles, asking price $3800 -- it's a really pretty bike.
Never had a problem with the carb in my 1100, especially when we went to Colorado a couple years back. Hubby and our best friend had trouble with their carbs on their Harleys. My Honda outran their Harleys in Colorado like there was no tomorrow -- needless to say, I still haven't let them live that one down.
Our 06 Ultra has FI and we love it. I know that Harleys had FI back in '02. Not sure how much further back than that.

you gotta adjust carbs according to altitude. Other than that, i don't find any problems with mine. It starts up with the use of a choke, then i put it halfway in. Ride it for a mile and then push it all the way in. Not really that much of a pain.
All harleys are FI now. I think carbs are an option. ;)

My dad rides a meanstreak. It's a fun bike. It's fast as hell but pretty heavy sitting still and the turn radius is not that great.
Carbs aren't bad. Better if you can service them yourself. I've decided to go ahead and re-jet mine after adding the new exhaust.
