As we all know summer is approaching, and it gets hot as hell in Houston. Do the textile jackets make it any cooler than the leather ones. I am about to purchase one. I like this leather Icon jacket but am wondering if the textile would be better for the summer.

I just bought a Vanson Hurricane from newenough ... on clearance for under 300.00 ... for a Vanson, I'll dish out the cash ... fully perforated ... I'll find out soon enough if Vanson is all that.

My wife has icon stuff for now until the baby weight if gone and then she will wear her dainese leathers. She has the blue kitty stuff and if she leans too hard on the bike the white dye rubs off on the bike and I have to polish it off. I wear a 2pc fieldsheer perforated leather suit and it flows air just fine when I am moving. The same will be true with mesh...but mesh won't hold up well if you go down...If you are going to spring for gear might as well get the best and do it once.

I have used both and pick based on what kind of riding I will be doing and weather. I use the textiles for shorter relaxed riding and I haven't used my new leather yet but my old leather was more for commuting. My new leather will take it's place.

Its not a bad brand at all, I just rather wear something better. People say Alpinestars is an excellent brand but my A-stars gloves are starting to tear and i haven't even wrecked on these yet.

Then again, I have a pair of frankthomas gloves and those lasted me forever even after my first wreck.

I would say that it depends on what kind of riding that you are doing if your cruising around the neighbor hood or stuck in the HOV lane with the sun beating down on you go for the perforated textile if definitely lets more heat out but it also allows more heat in, I think that the textile is a bit cooler but if you find the need to unleash the beast while your riding keep your money in your pocket and stick with your leathers. All jackets have pocket vents and when you’re at speed (55-65mph) without a pack on your back they all pretty much allow the same amount of air in if you have your vents open. I have both a perforated textile and an un-perforated leather I actually prefer my leather jacket if you find that your getting hot in your jacket your probably not going fast enough  …… Once you work up a good sweat under your jacket regardless of the type once the wind hits your wet shit assuming that you’re wearing one it feels great regardless. Either way when it’s 100+ degrees outside you’re going to get hot, there is no way around it

I am sure some people will be posting up how great their Icon gear held up after a crash. I would stop by Motorcycles-Unlimited, try on some stuff, check your options and get something that will fit and do its job.

I honestly just prefer the look of leather and it seems like it would hold up better.

I'm sure leather holds up better than textile, but i've had good expriences with my alpinestar textile jacket. I've wreckd in that jacket multiple times, one of them being @ over 130mph, and i have little scars or rash to show for it. I also wore that jacket yr round.

No it does not from what I have seen. I was being sarcastic. Several people have posted pics after crashes with their Icon gear and it did not hold up. Just like MotoGP gear.

Nice thing about textile is that you can wet your shirt underneath without damageing jacket.
Wet t-shirt under textile jacket= comfy hot weather protection

I just came back from a short ride and I was wearing my a-star mesh jacket. Definitely comfortable but I felt very unprotected since I'm accustomed to wearing a leather jacket now. If you can only get one jacket, get a perforated leather jacket. As for air flow the a-star t-stunt mesh breathes much better than my a-star stage perforated leather jacket but you're gonna sweat no matter what jacket you wear.

I dunno guys... Have mixed feelings on this one as far as Icon goes. I have the icon motorhead leather jacket and feels great as far as fit and ventilation goes. 1.2mm to 1.4mm cowhide just like all the others :dontknow: Guess I will find out the hard way how good it holds up when I go down :eek3: ... Anybody on here actually have experience going down with icon leathers???

I stopped by MU yesterday to check out the jackets, but I had a phone call and had to basically walk right out. Hopefully later on during the week I can go back and check them out. What are your opinions on Fieldsheer and Teknic brands?
