I finally had enough of my a-star smx plus boots squeaking and took some action. I used some bicycle chain wax to lube the external ankle joints and it seems to have worked quite well. Pedro's Ice Wax is what I used. Just a few drops where there is plastic on plastic and under the ankle joint. There is still a little noise from the leather but nowhere near as much as before :happy3: :happy3: :happy3: Hope it holds up. Now maybe I can walk into a public place without people staring at me.

All this time, I hear everyone's race boots squeaking and me, "squeaky", never had that issue. :keke:
Good thinking on the wax - try to remember to update how long it lasted and whether it has any negative effect on the plastics.

i don't even use wd40 to lube door hinges!
Squeaky, do you have the smx plus boots? Will do on the update. Hopefully it will stop raining and I can actually get some riding done. I was all suited up yesterday evening, went out and opened the garage only to see rain drops falling...:crying: :BangHead: :angry7:

No, I wear waterproof touring boots - more of an all-around since I am on and off the bike on long trips and they are super comfy but still protective and waterproof. My biggest problem is that I wear through them after about a year or so.

My A*s SMX boots lasted about a year as well. Although, I was pretty ruff on equipment that year. :laughing6

~15k a year. I'm rough on them, but that's why I buy lower-end boots that still offer all the safety that I need. I figure I can spend twice as much and maybe get a year and a half out of them, but then I'm still throwing money away. WHAT?! are you serious? I bought mine at cycle gear and didn't get a a box or anything. I've had my boots for almost a year and they weren't getting any quieter. :eh:
15k is a lot. I think I only rode 5k my first year and I don't think I'll be riding anywhere near that 5k this year. The streets just aren't fun after going to the track.

I don't go fast on the street or the track - I am still working on smooth. I go on rides and trips for the scenery, the "vacation mode" that I get into, and to spend time with friends and family. Yeah, so I happen to take vacations to the middle of nowhere that no tourists would go to... but that's the fun!

Javi,
do the boots really come with lube and a tool?
Squeaky,
I hear you on the smooth part. I wish I could hit the track every weekend. BTW I enjoyed your road trip thread.
