You can remove the heat shield if you have the carbon fiber exhaust.

i wouldnt take it off.... if you do, it would probably be a good idea to use that heat wrap you see wrapped around the pipes on trackbikes

You can remove the heat shield. I've seen at least 10 with it removed and running carbon fiber exhaust. Do not remove it if it is stock.

I'm on my blackberry or I would post some pics. KMFT removed his and honda of houston has a 1000rr and a 600rr for sale with carbon fiber exhaust without the heat shield.

600rr running a carbon fiber exhaust for the past 14K miles with no heat shields. When it was a street bike I had my PCIII and Scorpio alarm in my trunk, never had an issue with them, so the heat must not be that bad. You can get heat shield that comes like tape and tape it under there. You should have a couple inches of clearance though so it should not be a problem. Remove the heat shields and keep an eye on it for a few days. Not a big deal at all.

I have the Jardine Carbon Fiber on my 06 and have not had any problems after I removed the heat shield. The gap between the exhaust and the undertail is enough to keep it from melting.:icon_thum

As ThomAss said, KMFT has the Jardine CF exhaust on his too with no issues.

I've seen the stick on reflective tape stuff used the majority of time, even on the one that Honda of Houston has on their floor. I had the understanding that the akrapovic and most other exhaust came with something to stick under the tail to deflect the heat?

To add to the stick on heat shield material topic, does anyone know where this can be found on it's own? I was thinking somewhere like radioshack or something may have some suggestions.
