Penske vs Ohlins

Well,
who likes what and why.

I am probably gonna do my suspension (my rear spring is def too hard) , have been trying to decide which way to go...

Penske double
penske triple
Ohlins triple
rebuild/revalve stock shock.

The bad that I have heard with ohlins is that they come one size fits all valving and that the high speed adjuster does not work without revalve.

The bad I have heard about the penske is that the preload is not as easy to adjust as the ohlins

My Ohlins works well. That is about all I know.

To be completley blunt with you, unless your a top 5 expert then you will not be able to tell the difference between the choices you listed.
BUT
I prefer Ohlins cartridges & Ohlins shocks. Look up and down any WSBK or MotoGP paddock and you will find no Traxxion or Penske products. All Ohlins, WP suspension or Factory Showa. I personally feel more confident on a Ohlins product.

Both are good and both are priced about the same.

I prefer Ohlins in that it doesn't seem to require servicing as often as the Penske, and IMO works better over a wider range of riding.

As fas as "one size fits all valving on the Ohlins", that's BS.

Maybe if the dealer orders it from Parts Unlimited it is, just as if the dealer orders it from one of Penskes sub distributors.

However, if it's ordered direct from Ohlins (which is where I do it) it's set up for your weight and riding.

I've run the Penkse triple a few seasons now and LOVE it! Re-fresh it twice a season. My tuner tells me Penske is better suited for the bumpy southern tracks we run, while Ohlins is better on the smother tracks. As stated above, unless you're looking for the last .010's for a track record you won't be able to tell the difference except in your wallett. The Penske Double would be my choice if you are still riding it on the street. The triple is better suited to track only with the separate high speed adjustability. My .02..........

racing use the penske triple

Oh and the Penske is offered with remote hydraulic preload adjuster for a little more dough. For as little as I adjust preload I didn't find it worth it. IT's not that hard to adjust, but different bikes make it harder to reach on some models...........like my CBR!

Penske has the remote reservoir - have to "hose clamp" it to mount it - kind of cheezy to me - still a good shock, but Ohlins is my vote - I'm not real BLING motivated, but I do think the Ohlins looks nicer. I don't change the preload often, but it sure is easier when you do with the hydraulic adjuster.

Penske offers both styles there Radar. Piggyback or remote reservior, but yeah the hose clamp mount is a bit cheese ball, but they do give you those two rubber shock mount thingys.......

Depends on what your hose clamps are made of or coated with. Regular old stainless isn't very high on the bling scale. I will give you extra credit if you are using the stainless T-bolt clamps though............The remote mount is supposed to keep the fluid cooler by the way.
