IMUS Statement
The Rutgers team, which includes eight black women, had lost the day before in the NCAA women's championship game. Imus was speaking with producer Bernard McGuirk about the game when the exchange began on "Imus in the Morning," which is broadcast to millions of people on more than 70 stations and MSNBC.
"That's some rough girls from Rutgers," Imus said. "Man, they got tattoos ... ."
"Some hardcore hos," McGuirk said.
"That's some nappy-headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that," Imus said.
Imus apologized on the air Friday, but his mea culpa has not quieted the uproar.
Jackson said Sunday his RainbowPUSH Coalition planned to protest Monday in Chicago outside the offices of NBC, which owns MSNBC. Jackson said protests were being planned across the country.
James E. Harris, president of the New Jersey chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, demanded Sunday that Imus "resign or be terminated immediately."
Allison Gollust, a spokeswoman for MSNBC, said the network considers Imus' comments "deplorable" and is reviewing the matter.
Karen Mateo, a spokeswoman for CBS Radio -- Imus' employer and the owner of his New York radio home, WFAN-AM -- said the company was "disappointed" in Imus' actions and characterized his comments as "completely inappropriate."

Imus has "verbal diarrhea" (yes i watched the Sopranos last night) republican or not! He let's those lips flap him into trouble all the time, same goes for that other fugger O'Reily. I love it when the true nature of racism comes out!!!
They'll learn sooner or later, too bad I can't move in next to his ars and have all my "GHETTO HOS homegirls" come over and bang 2Pac in his ear all night!!!

1) Are you inferring that this is being blown out of proportion? I hope not because that shyt was past ridiculous.
2) I think that if a mainstream radio host referred to a female basketball team as a bunch of [insert adjective] crackers or any other derogatory terminology, yes, he would be scrutinized for it...

It was wrong on his part, PERIOD. We've already established that fact. I think the real question, is how do we procced forward with it now? If the radio station fire's him, it makes them look good in promoting the fact that they dont condone rascism of any nature. Honestly, he's an extension of information and shouldnt be inferring to ANY race or culture in any derogatory fashion. Rascism exists everywhere. More so than others. You can sit here and argue back and forth all day about "What if the tables were turned blah blah blah", but THIS is the issue at hand. I dont mind posting up an article about the "militia men" on our borders, taking matters into they're own hands against MY people. It's just an article that was brought up. So let's discuss....

To be honest, the comments make me sick, BUT I think he has freedom of speech just as much as I do. I really don't consider him an "extension of information" b/c he's a talk radio host, but if he was a anchor on CNN whose job it is to be objective then fire his b!tch a$$.

Well of course we have freedom of speech, but that still doesnt give any right to any individual to refer to rascist comments. See, thats where the mis-information comes in. The KKK or "white power" groups fall back on that whole "Freedom of speech" bit, but do not understand that slavery, abolished by Abraham Lincoln, is illegal now, in any form or fashion. Wether it is publisiced (sp), televised or brought upon the "people" or "media" in any other form or fashion. Not disagreeing with you 1FastGSXR, just adding onto what you posted.....:hello:

I respected Martin Luther King alot for the message that he was conveying. He wanted EVERYONE to live in a peaceful society.......

But he's just that a "media personality" just like the DJ's you listen to on the radio on the way to work. If he was a REPORTER of news then I would have a problem with the lack of objectivity his station has in the news they report, but this is radio personality, like Bill Maher is a TV personality, and Howard Stern is a radio personality. They DEFINATELY are distinguished from the news media, they actually distinguish THEMSELVES from the media.

Why is it that when a white man says stuff like that, people call for his firing. However, when a black/hispanic man says things like that, he gets a comedy special, a tv show, a cd released, movies, etc etc etc? It seems that anyone who does jokes about whites is ok and laughed at. Some old idiot dude "tries" to be funny and says something ignorant, everyone wants him fired.
It's a double standard. I don't agree with what he said at all. IMO it was over the line. However, when will people start feeling the same way anytime a non-white person says similar things about whites? As long as people are differentiated by whatever color(religion/sex) they are, there will ALWAYS be a divide.

The difference is that Howard Stern's audience is a bit more limited in that The Imus show is comparable to that of Fox & Friends, The Today Show and The View...how do you think people would react to Bill Maher making racist comments? The Imus show is featured on MSNBC, this is a distinguishable difference to the Howard Stern Show. I understand that he is a "media personality" but this does not justify his use of derogatory language in any instance. He still held to the same limits as are other entities in other various media outlets...

Might be but still worth disgussing on a wide scale which is what PUSH and NAACP do, put pressure on the right entites to stop the bullsh!t. As for the black community PUSH and NAACP are the only organizations that are available to speak on our behalf or take action againt those that misconstrue what the African American can bring to the table here in America.

Personally not offensive to me, but let's be fair across the board.

Of course not all were treated like that...you had to have House N's to live up to the William Lynch methodology...but blacks were widely mistreated during slavery so to dismiss it as if blacks were treated mostly good is a bit foolish...

My observations:
1. Imus did not need notes. Sharpton did.
2. Sharpton trips over his own words and stutters several times.
3. Imus admitted that he was wrong but stood his ground.
4. Nobody in their right mind would resign their million dollar salary over something like this.
I'm betting this will all go away soon. It's nothing but fabricated 'news'. The media has a field day with it because it's easy and half of America is reality TV/Drama obsessed so they eat it up.

Sharpton and all these other supposed civil rights leaders have the perfect opportunity to address the use of this type of language on a grand scale but are too afraid of being scrutinized that they focus in on this Imus guy. Sure what he said was wrong but let the networks handle what they do with him. They should be focused on somebody like 50 or Jay who use the word ho so loosely that it has become a bit of an idiomatic expression amongst certain groups. I don't think Imus should be fired though because I feel that if you feel a certain way then dammit I'd like to know who you are...better the devil you know than the one you don't. Sharpton and others aren't, in my opinion, doing what it is they should be doing. :angry7:

Anderson Cooper, grilled Rev Jackson on this last night, and Jackson admitted what he said shouldnt be said by NE1 even his own people. The young ladies (a black 1 btw) said the same thing it wasnt about black/white, it was about the way WOMEN are referred to as HOES. Very classy. :icon_thum

OK...SOOOOO.....unless u live on another planet, u've heard that Don Imus was FIRED late yesterday.
I'm a little pissed about this one. I have to back up and say that NOW it's gone WAAAYYYY too far.
1. Placed into perspective, all-b-it the $h!t was distasteful the damn comment was a joke...a joke... I've played it back dozens of times and I hear a joke. Honestly, when I think back to my high school days, I woulda said the same $h!t to at least 2 of the girls my damn self.
2. Don Imus didn't get this "Nappy Headed Hoes" $h!t from his culture peers, he got it from OUR hip-hop community. So we need to deal with our use of the $h!t b4 we scould a white boy for just imitating us!!!
On the other hand I do understand the fact that he is influential, since I now hear that THE YOUNG LADIES ARE RECEIVING HATE MAIL about this which is SICK. However, the sincerity in his apologies, attempts at resolving the situation WITH THE ONES OFFENDED, and his suspension were enough...to me.
I'm still all for freedom of speech whether political or not!

+1...the shyt has been blown completely out of proportion. Though what he said about the Rutgers girls was fcuked up, he complimented the Tennessee team which consists of mostly black females. Somehow, this was omitted from most of the replays you see on the news. And yes, it was a dayum joke, distasteful but a joke none the less. They shouldn't have taken the man's job, punish him, sure-but not his job. I'm waiting for a Duke lacrosse player apology from ol Sharpton for everything that was said throughout THAT investigation...or for Sharpton to address certain individuals within the Hip Hop community. It's pretty fcuked up that those girls are receiving hate mail...wtf did they do ?

Actually, I did read the whole thread, and when Crystal brought this up, you had no witty reply for it. So you can keep your gay laughing smiley and shove it up your double standard wanting azz.
Wait, that was probably a little out of line, but the fact still remains that I do not see Sharpton or Jackson protesting outside of recording studios screaming about the same wrong doings. I do not see them going into the inner city and trying to have gang members or anyone else using those words arrested for committing hate crimes. Till then, I'm gonna keep saying N, Ho, etc.

[What I was gonna say] Obviously ya dumbass hadn't actually read the thread-or simply didn't comprehend it- because you were saying the same shyt that someone else (Crys, Candi, Myself) in the thread had already alluded to...Hip hop being a major contributor to the use of sexist and racially improper language at times. I didn't need to make a witty comment because I agree with the shyt. Where the fcuk is the double standard genius? :gesture:
What you said before:
For those in outrage over the racist statements made by Imus, do you listen to rap music? If so, go cry to them to stop using the words. Then come talk others. If it's offensive for one to use, it's offensive for all to use. nuff said, he got fired now stfu about it
What I had already said (post 85):
:angry7:
So why don't you take your allusion to my having a double standard n shove it up in your ass...deal? :icon_thum
Wait, that was probably a little out of line, but the fact still remains that I do not see Sharpton or Jackson protesting outside of recording studios screaming about the same wrong doings. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, brotha.
[What I will say now that I read this] If it was out of line then you should have deleted it for me not to have read. I have already knocked Sharpton and Jackson for their lack of consistency. Do what you do, use the word freely...just watch who you use it with. What 's good for the goose is good for the gander...my pops said it all the time. Problem is, if you recognize there is a problem with hip hop and its use of derogatory language yet you persist in using the language, there is an inherent hypocrisy in atleast the last two posts I've seen from you.
Be easy...

I'll say this, if you don't like people using those words, then go to them for using them and making money off of it. When I use those words, I'm really meaning no harm. When people get mad at words I have a tendency to laugh, because it's WORDS. Kinda like the "Yo momma" stuff. I laugh myself silly watching people get all worked up to where they want to fight because someone said something about their mom. GROW UP. IT'S A WORD.
Let's not forget that while you all want there to be no racism, EVERYONE, read that again, EVERYONE has said something derogatory about another race. If you're gonna say that you haven't, you're a motherfuggin liar and you know it.

maybe jokingly, or in a moment of anger, but i've never seriously harbored any racist thoughts. that's a lot different then saying it with meaning, which is the problem. the problem's not people who say words that could be construed as racist, but people who are actually racist(because they're stupid)

For the record: I'm black n I've NEVER said peace out...always thought it was a bit corny (not knocking n e one who does, that's just me). Let's chill with the generalizations. All white boys don't say "totally dude", all mexicans don't say "orda ley (sp?)", etc...
I'm with you on not getting all caught up in words, but if someone uses the word boy, n[][][]a, coon, etc with me, then I figure they are intentionally disrespecting me and challenging my manhood and I will promptly address the shyt. As far as rappers using the words, I've kinda fallen out with rap...I listen to it at times, but for the most part I stick to my jazz, ol school and reggae/dub. Rappers aren't really talkin about shyt anymore...Tupac was one of the last that actually had content to his material. Common, Mos, Talib and others are aight but they, for whatever reason, aren't able to reach out to the mainstream listeners. Thank you for toning down your rhetoric though...I personally respond alot better to positivity. :icon_thum

I wouldn't say get more violent. But you should definately not let people walk all over you. There are times to let things pass and there are times to properly address things, the decision is yours to make. I think you handled it right for the most part. Perhaps I should have better qualified my statement. The way that you have illustrated your potential use of the term boy is koo. You would essentially be using it as more of a term of endearment than in some sort of condescending tone. What I am referring to is uses such as: boy...go get this, look here boy, boy...I told you to step out of the car, etc...Basically the way that you heard it being used back in the 60's and prior. :icon_thum

Just something I picked up off another board: cause it seems like yall are talking racisim and yes I did read all the pages. I don't care what color you are or what race you are, we are all purple. But why is it okay for people of the same race to use words that the other race cannot, because it is RACIST. BS live life to the fullest and have fun, life is not a black, white, asian ect thing. Just be more respectful of each other.
Someone finally said it.
How many are actually paying attention to this?
There are African Americans, Mexican Americans,
Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc.
And then there are just Americans.
You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction.
You Call me "White boy," "Cracker," "Honkey,"
"Whitey," "Caveman." And that's OK.
But when I call you, ******, Kike, Towel head, Sand-******, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ...
You call me a racist
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television)
..We'd be racist
If we had a White Pride Day
.. You would call us racist
If we had White History Month
.. We'd be racist
If we had any organization for only whites to "advance" OUR lives
.. We'd be racist
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that?
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships
... You know we'd be racist
There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US , yet if there were "White colleges"
..THAT would be a college.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights,
...You would call us racist
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're Not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride
.. You call us racist
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society
.. You call him a racist
I am proud.
But you call me a racist
Why is it that only whites can be racist ????
Now who is being racist ?????
I was going to leave this thread alone but taht post is filled with garbage. It is a delusional piece that references neither history nor accurantly assesses what racism truly is. This part burns me up:
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society
.. You call him a racist
...I mean, it's as if it assumes there are no black, hispanic, or other types of cops AND it seems to fall under the presumption of there being no white carjackers, robbers, thieves, crackheads, etc. This is garbage and is a complete spin on a subject that WE ALL know is human problem and not a racial/cultural specific one.

So what in your eyes is considered racism, at what point do we get rid of racism and just start living lives. Am I suppose to pay for what people did centurys ago to other races ??? The piece was taken off another board, wouldnt say it was all delusional or accurately assesses the way some things are precieved. Is there a white college funds ??? If we did a white march how would that be precieved ??
Racism is by definition "hatred or intolerance of another race or other races". How is it that BET which occasionally features whites, even Paul Wall videos is racist by that definition. How is a million man march whose intent was to register black voters who would not have otherwise been registered, racist. It's not, although there were entities who took place in the march are antagonististic towards whites, the march as a whole was not oriented toward being antagonistic towards whites but rather, to registar black voters. There is nothing wrong with uplifting oneself. No you are not supposed to pay for what happened years ago but you will acknowledge it. How are you paying for it now? You're not, Indians get reparations but somehow blacks aren't entitled to anything...but I digress and that is another discussion. Now back to the main topic, are we as black supposed to simply forget? I surely would hope not, to forget history is to allow fertile ground for the event to reemerge. Actually there ARE white only funds! Click here (http://people.bu.edu/colrepub/Caucasian%20Achievement%20and%20Recognition%20Scho larship.html). There are WHITE MARCHES, the KKK just had one up in Waco a few months ago. Kill that noise!
I understand that statement makes sense, it does presume a lot, but what is the population of the prison system made of ????
Everyone has there views, I could care less what anyones colors are, but this was from another board and was from a white point of view obviously, doesn't make it right but not all wrong either. It is an opinion and that is it, does it mean that they should get fired also for writing such stuff ???
The statement DOES NOT make sense. It's full of generalizations and conjecture. It's simply stupid. Who cares what the prison systems mostly consists of, all that says to me is that cops tend to pay more attention to blue collar crimes than white collar crimes and that only the small fish get caught while the small fish are fried frequently. Why is that dope cases and crimes like that carry 20+ year sentenses while child molestation and accounting fraud carry minimal sentences with the possibility for parole on good behavior? We can go all day but the opinion, imo, is absolutely out of touch with reality and is more divisive than anything. Carries a bit of a bigot-esq air with it.
It is an opinion and that is it, does it mean that they should get fired also for writing such stuff ???
You said you read the thread but if you actually had then you would know that I had said, on multiple occasions that he SHOULD NOT have been fired. :angry7:

Possibly because the race pushers Al Sharkton and Jesse Jackasson got involved in the removal of Imus from his radio show. :dontknow:

Someone finally said it.
How many are actually paying attention to this?
There are African Americans, Mexican Americans,
Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc.
And then there are just Americans.
You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction.
You Call me "White boy," "Cracker," "Honkey,"
"Whitey," "Caveman." And that's OK.
But when I call you, ******, Kike, Towel head, Sand-******, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ...
You call me a racist
PURE STUPIDITY. African-Americans are those individuals born in Africa and migrate to America. Same goes for Asians, Mexicans and others. If you are born here in America, then you are damn American. I wonder who this cat was referring to when he offered: And then there are just Americans. I don't call whites "crackers", "honkeys", "whitey's" or any other racial epithet...so I dare a mu'fugga to say the opposite in my face.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
ANOTHER DUMBASS STATEMENT insisted with an air of magnanimity. What exactly is a ghetto? White's stay in ghettos, projects, hoods, trailer parks, etc too. Lets not act as if black and other minorities are the contributors to violence around the world.
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah.
Well let me look at the damn calendar:
St. Patrick's Day
Washington's Birthday
Lincoln's Birthday
Columbus Day
fuk outta heah with that garbage...:gesture:
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television)
..We'd be racist
If we had a White Pride Day
.. You would call us racist
If we had White History Month
.. We'd be racist
If we had any organization for only whites to "advance" OUR lives [Ever hear of the KKK]
.. We'd be racist
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that?[Me too]
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships [THERE ARE]
... You know we'd be racist
There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US , yet if there were "White colleges"
..THAT would be a college.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, :angry7:
...You would call us racist
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're Not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride
.. You call us racist
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society :gesture: [Simply not comprehensive enough and is inconsiderate to facts of reality]
.. You call him a racist
I am proud.
But you call me a racist
Why is it that only whites can be racist ????
Now who is being racist ?????

That is correct, a lot of what goes on in life doesn't make a lot of sense. Opinions are like A$$holes we all have one. This doesn't reflect what I believe but some people are stupid and believe some of the view that I posted. Doen't make it right or wrong just a view or opinion. As my post was only general and not pointed directly at you or anyone.
Sadly, you highlighted two things without regard to what the most important part of that staement was...sad :angry7:

Ding ding we have a winner!!
Cajuns: your words : although there were entities who took place in the march are antagonististic towards whites
Again your words: Racism is by definition "hatred or intolerance of another race or other races".
How is it okay for some entities that were at the march and lead the march not racist or make it a racist venue ?? , they are antagonististic towards whites, but that is not racist ???
Just curious ???
You forgot the fact that I said: the march as a whole was not oriented toward being antagonistic towards whites but rather, to registar black voters. That's like the most important part of that section of the paragraph yet you omitted it. Funny how that works. Your logic is not adding up! It's not ok for them to lead it. They weren't the only ones to take part in it. Sometimes though, one must do things in order to reach an end. Did we like giving Saddam Hussein weapons in the 80's? No, but we did it because the means, in that case, justified the end. Do you even know the stated purpose of the million man march? I doubt it. If you are going to take issue with something then take it with the black panthers of the 60's...atleast you actually have more ground to stand on.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree, as I have my opinions and beliefs as you have yours. As none of this is my opinion, or reflect anything or everything that I believe in at all. I have no hate in my body, no time for the stupid $hit. I could care less what anyones nationality is or anything. Only thing that matters to me are you a GOOD person. So dont miss understand anything I have posted.
Great....agree to disagree :icon_thum I agree with the base point of your statement: I could care less what anyones nationality is or anything. Only thing that matters to me are you a GOOD person. Don't let retards like the one you posted steer your decision making or cloud your judgement and shape your worldview. That statement was a generalization and general statements are generally stupid.

I totally agree, it is just amazing what people believe in. But that does not dictate what I do or what my beliefs are. I am a GOOD person and will continue to be a GOOD person. I have made mistakes as does everyone else in life, I am not perfect. But I can tell you that I would and always have helped out strangers no matter what color or race they are and will continue to do so. So always know if I am ever around that I will help anyone in any situation, including you :icon_thum
Preciate it and I am glad to know you don't share unknown posters sentiments...people like that are actually the poroblem in society today, white and black alike.

I don't seems like it is deserving because as a public safety official, he is basically doing the same thing the NWA did back in the early 90's. I don't think within that capacity, he should be alluding to killing cops...jus seems wrong. If he wants to rap about it, then be prepared for your public servitude to be cut short.
