So I just bought this bike.

I got a great deal, so I cannot complain...

My clutch seems to grab HARD. If I ride normally, it will engage just fine and everyone's happy. However, if I try to launch, the clutch will start to engage just fine, but when it reaches a certain point, it'll grab HARD, and make a low ton grinding noise. By hard I mean like... 3 times harder... it jerks pretty bad. I cant even deal with it, so I've been riding slow (or rather just not trying to launch fast). It does not slip at all, and everything is fine once the thing is engaged.....:confused2

1. Anyone know whats wrong?
2. Can you buy clutch kits?
3. If so where?

For Black Widow and viprgtsr.... I don't know what's wrong. I am in no way a certified mechanic. I am purely an amatuer rider who loves to build his own bikes. With that in mind...

This sounds to me like you've got heavier clutch springs installed. The reason I say that is because you're able to release the clutch and get it in neutral.

I wish I could help with the low grinding noise. I'm Deaf.:icon_bigg

You can buy a clutch kit at any shop or reputable online dealer. I've used a Barnett clutch kit with great success. I definitely would recommend them but my experience there is somewhat rather limited. I never went with another brand since I had great success with Barnett. Why mess with success? That was my method of thinking at the time.

What kind of bike is this? I love it when my clutch is grabby. I'm the kinda guy who likes to just lay it heavy on the throttle and drag the heck out of the bike.

Acceleration vs top speed. I'm going with acceleration evertime. WHOOOO!

it's a 2006 GSXR1000

I'll check out the kits....

And I would like to go ahead and apologize for posting this in the WRONG section.... For some reason by "GEAR" I was thinking technical issues or something of the sort.

I wouldnt mind a clutch that grabs hard, but this seems different. When it grabs it's instant, and there is nothing linear about it. It's not something I've been able to predict/get used to... It's almost like it LOCKS together.

The best way to reall put it is, one second i'll be slowly pulling away from the light, and the next my front end will be in the air. Its rediculous! :confused2

ok well i owned a k6 gsxr 1000 a year ago...and i know when ever i went to the 1/4 mile track and tried to launch it that it would make a weird noise,but not a grinding noise...i was told it was the "slipper clutch" making the noise...do some research on it

You could have a warped plate, it's difficult to tell without riding it.
As far as clutches, stay away from the Barnett unless you want to be changing it frequently.
The best clutch for that bike is the OEM one.

If you bring the bike by I'll test ride it and see if it has any issues, no charge.

I had a similar problem with my clutch, but i dont know if its the same problem. I was having trouble shifting or getting the bike into neutral. It was rough, but i dont recall any noises while engaging the gear. Have Patrick check it out, because when you get into the clutch it can get pricey and Patrick will treat you more than fairly.
My mechanic here in CS thought it was warped plates as well, he got them out and put the feeler gauge to them, they werent warped though.
He looked the plates over, and realized that the outter plates weren't oiled well enough. That was making them stick. So, he soaked them overnight and put them back in, then it was fine.

But again, take Patrick up on his offer. Hes the man.
