Opinions on these boots for the meantime...

I want to get some riding boots soon, but I don't want the big ol' "race" boots I see everywhere since I just street ride. For now, I've been wearing my Doc Martens Wellingtons. They are a nice thick leather with ankle padding and steel toe.

For riding, I'd prefer a lace up boot though since I can imagine mine might "come off" if I was to go down. I've considered getting a set of lace-up steel-toe docs to help prevent this. Also, I was looking at those offered specifically for riding. I've checked out some of the more "normal" looking boots from Icon, Joe Rocket, A* and if the Docs (current or lace-ups) aren't suggested, I will eventually go with a set of these so I can wear them to work, the mall, etc without looking like robocop, lol.

Opinions?

My question is, with a sole that thick and made of rubber, how much feeling in the shifter and footpegs are you going to have? Also, with the boot so tall from sole to top of toe, how easy will it be to quickly get it under the shifter to shift? You're riding an R6, my opinion is to get a boot better suited for that kind of bike/riding style. Also, what kind of ankle protection do those boots offer?

i'd steer from away from the steel toe....they'll chop your toes right off

Check out some of Sidis more street oriented boots like the B2 or Strada.

My foot fits under the shifter just fine with them and I feel the footpegs fine. I've had no problems with them. I wear the boots daily to work so I'm used to the feel.

And aside from just commenting "worse is the steel toe", please elaborate as to what you mean by that statement. I need the steel toes for work and I would prefer to not have to carry them with me any time I ride the bike to work. Of course, if necessary, I will, but I figured I'd ask for opinions on the matter before deciding which course of action to take.

If they're made to ANSI standards for the work industry, I don't see how they'd be any less safe than no steel. They are made to prevent crushing of toes. Of course, I'm looking at it from a work-environment standpoint. If my foot is dragging the ground, I'd rather the steel be there dragging vs leather possibly getting eaten up.

Again, I don't know for sure. Anyone had experience or SEEN/READ anyones experiences with steel toes during a fall?
