I ride in jeans, gloves, boots, and not always my jacket when I am commuting and keeping it in the 35 mph or less.
If I am gettin on highway its full gear, cuz 80-90mph is pretty much traffic flow around here, and it would be a bitch to go down in jeans at those speeds.
I rode a lot when I was a kid and roadrash was a standard back then, somehow I dont remember it being fun, and I dont heal as fast now.

35 mph can cause ALOT of road rash.
Amen to that...
Has anyone ever crashed on a bicycle or a skateboard. If so, the damage done there was typically under 10mph. And we all know how much that $hit hurts.

my little cousin just got a bike, he's in 7th grade, so for a science experiment wanted to test riding gear. He dropped a 30 pound sandbag onto a T-shirt, then denim, then leather from an old jacket, doing 35 miles per hour. It took 2 seconds with the tshirt to see sand coming from the bag. It took 6 seconds for the denim. The leather lasted for 2 miles then they sped up to 60 for 2 more miles and never saw any sand... leather works!!

fuk'd my left palm up doin about 10-15mph turning out of a stop sign. hit some sand on the street at night and lowsided. my natural reaction was to brace myself with my hand. had boots, lid, jacket, but no gloves.
it was prolly the size of a 1/2 dollar on my palm and 3 layers of skin was ripped off. it effin HURT and took about a month to scab over. it wasnt a lot of rash but i have never rode w/out gloves now even if i feel like being squidish.
im glad it happened because im hard headed and probably would of learned my lesson going a little faster

Bump for the squids. Good thread IMO. People will do as they please but they really should wear proper riding gear.

I wear a helmet and everything else is leather except for the pants......JEANS.
I've had two low-sides, they shredded both times :banghead::banghead:
I would really hate to wear leather pants for street riding, but thats the only option.
+1000000000000000000000 on gear, it saved my ass.

Actually you can get some slider shorts and knee+shin guards. Won't be as effective as leather pants but hey its better than just jeans :thumb:
