Okay, I'm sure there's someone here that's got the aptitude to do this. Why not make a mike and headset unit that can be placed into the helmet that can be hooked directly into a standard (i.e. universal) 2.5mm Cell phone jack?
That way, when you pull over, you can just plug your phone in and make calls without having to take off your helmet. I see a lot of fancy systems with bluetooth setups but nothing simple like this. I've seen a couple systems similar to this, but it's always an add on to more expensive comm units.

Well, it's already been done.
Becca (the OTHER Becca) has her AutoComm hooked in with communicator, XM, and now her phone. She has only used it once on a long ride, but basically the phone is in her tank bag and is on auto-answer. When it rings, it immediately picks up, mutes her music, and you talk to her through her mic for the communicator.

My phone works well with my helmet on and the speakerphone turned on. People on the other end said they could hear me and understand just fine.
I just throw the flip phone in teh helmet and continue riding. Anything over 50mph and i cant hear them. lol

You need a smaller helmet if you can get your phone inside it to talk.:laughing6

From what I understand, the only time RocketBunny has used it was on her IB certification ride (Iron Butt - 1000 miles in 24 hours, documented with receipts and witnesses). A few of us would call her to check in, post updates to her blog, and just see what stage she'd made it to. Kept her alert on some of the long, broing stretches of I10.

Here's the thing, if you need to use the phone, just pull over and plug in your helmet, as opposed to having to take off your helmet.
I wouldn't suggest riding with the phone pluged in ... however, if you have one of those neat mp3 phones ....
