Mr. Phan,

You commented on my post about trading my truck for a bike and i was hoping for a little more clarification. So for us to make the trade we would each need a separate 130U form right? And his bike is registered in california. How much more does that complicate things and/ or effect the cost?

Thanks!:notworthy:

I don't know a whole lot about the process. Maybe somebody who deals specifically with title transfers is a better source.

But yes you would need to fill out a 130-U on the bike you are getting and a Vehicle Transfer Notification form on your truck that is being traded. If the value of the vehicles equal one another, you won't have to pay any taxes.

Preferably the other person will fill out a 130-U as well but this really isn't your problem as long as you fill out a Vehicle Transfer Notification in a timely manner.

Since the bike is from out of State, you will need it to be inspected at an authorized place (ask them beforehand if they can do out of State vehicles). Take the certificate you get with you when you go to the clerk's office to get your title and registration.
