Sorry to hear about your friend...
I've never been a fan of Icon products, especially the older stuff.
IMO they weren'y very well made and had plain padding for "armor".
Some of the more recent stuff has gotten better, but in my experience, the Fieldsheer, Cortech, Teknic, Alpinestar textiles and some of the Joe Rocket stuff all perform much better than Icon.
Leather is definitely the most protective, but even so, a well made textile will outperform an inexpensive, not very well made leather.

Racer X told you that they weren't the best before you even bought it. But you were stuck on the whole pink theme. I remember that thread unfortunately...thats the same one you were complianing about expensive helmets...

Glad he was able to walk away. Looks like a long slide, so the textile still did better than a long-sleeved shirt or nothing; he'd still be picking concrete and blacktop out of it!

Tecnics wreck good, Ive seen someone wreck at 170 and all it did was rip the stitching and scuff it to all hell.. all the damage to him was carpet burn from the inside of the jacket:icon_thum

The guy that went down was actually riding with us all night nor does he post on here, well at least hadnt as of yesterday. He joined up with us on memorial and tagged along he was heading downtown to a friends place or something. Dont know how long he had been riding or anything and wasnt going real fast just riding too close to the curb and hit the off set drainage ditch and then went down. The jacket saved his hide, but he did have some rash on his forarm, def would have been fine in good leathers but the jacket did do its job...........but im sticking with leather dont care how hot it gets!

that is straight textbook though, it showed exactally what happend. If he is new, I used to do that. when epople were behind me, I would move to one side of the lane because of where they were, and woudl get nervous, and get close to the curb.

i saw the bike at the shop it aint that bad.
easy fixer, the only issue is the case has a small spot that has been touched by the rode. should still seal up.
sliders helped alot. no damage on the tank minimal on the tail and upper. almost none on the slip on.
]
\
shound be that close to the curb. theres no way out when u ride that close . if another guy goes down u only have 1 exit. and thats right. u would want to have 2 shots outta trouble.
one of my good friends did the same thing 3 yrs ago and died in front of my face. curbed checked and hit a gaurd rail. noobie mistake that costs alot.
anyway,
