Frame Sliders

Taking off my cage and putting on frame sliders, I hear alot of people saying the extended ones are junk and this and that, have started looking around and see lots of different brands, any suggestions on what type to get for a 929? Are the extended ones better/worse? I hear delrin are the best. But i was also told to get the ones with the interchangeable tips. Thanks for the imput.

yes use delrin...shogun,harris... remember if you go cheap (around $50) they could fail you and not protect anything...maybe even strip out the engine mount bolts....and remember frame sliders were only designed to protect the frame/engine if it saves more your lucky. as always hit up patrick:icon_thum

im jealous of the R6/R1's their sliders protect the whole damn bike. my friend has dropped his r6 countless times and it still looks like its off the showroom.

anyway, I say go with shogun, they seem to stick out the farthest and are good quality. they ar the only ones I can see that are made for the RC that will protect my fairings. all the other brands...pff, you can pretty much just mount the plastics OVER them.

i have the short lexan ones (i think) on my 929, added 22 horses to the rear wheel

Eric - what ever you do stay away from those extremely long ones (can't remember what they are called!)

My friend damaged is frame coz the those long ones go deep into the frame! They are stunt friendly and that's about it, you can put your feet on it and stunt and etc..

but i don't think your going that route.

Also stick with Delrin..I usually prefer no-cut, but that's a to open a whole differet can of worms..

No-Cut or Cut, they'll both protect you from minor incidents!

i got some $45 cheapies too...but i had to readjust my spedometer after i installed them to get the correct speed...

+1 on that. Frame sliders are a hit or miss deal, seems more like a money maker for the dealers that sell them. I've seen them reduce rash on fairings and I've seen them break motor mounts and bends frames. Take your pick.

Well im going to take it off tonight and have that part re welded, but i dont want to put it back on, might keep it might sell it, not sure.

even cages will do this...mine has all thread running through it now...a frame slider was to save the bike from falling over at a dead stop...if your riding and you slide it across the road and didn't get a scratch on nothing but the slider then you get lucky.

Dropped my SVS off the rear stand once. It went down gently, but the only real damage was the shifter snapping off. There were tiny little marks where the front blinker and bar end hit the concrete, but that was it. Saved me lots of $$$ on plastic!

I like the Shogun. They're made of Delrin and use high quality bolts, I keep then in stock for most bikes, prices range from $39.95 and up.

In my experience I have seen frame sliders do more harm than good. Broken cylinder heads bent frames and this is from wrecks that in my opinion would have just trashed some body work, levers etc. But if your bike was just knocked over I can see how that would help but I think the bad out weighs the good on these things.

i have the ext. FI ones i laid the bike down at 70 and they saved my case cover ,rearset,and probally a host of other things till i slid off the road and they dug in tehe ground casue me to lose my front end. . most of these slider come with grade 8 bolts (i think)which is too strong and this is how the mounts get broke . buy some and go to home depot and buy regular bolts so they will snap off if they get hit hard enough to do any severe damage .

Good quality frame sliders do a good job most of the time.
Extended ones tend to exert more leverage and break ears off, but well deisgned "normal" sized ones work real well.

While there are exceptions to every rule, by and large the sliders we've used on ours and our customers race bikes, have prevented more damage than they have created.

My 2 cents, YMMV.
