View Full Version : Hung bike stolen
Hey guys, I'm working on uploading the pics now. Bike was stolen at 8:01PM on camera from my apartment complex located in the Medical Center of Houston. Description of the guy is very generic black male mid 20's red cap, shirt and khaki or plaid shorts. He just rode it out the front gate like it was his. =/
Sequence of events description:
4AM-6PM: MSRH I had a small tumble from leaning into Sugar and Spice corner where my stupid "cage" slider actually made contact with the track and the bike slid from under me. Bike was fine, just mainly cosmetics. I was fine as well.
6:35PM: Finished unloading everything at Marks down the street from me.
7PM: Brought bike home. I hooked the headlights back up but not the tail light because someone decided to bust it out while I was in class at MSRH and it was in the paddock area. I left the blue tape on there to hold it on.
8:01PM: Guy rides my bike out the front gate. My security guard that usually watches over my V and my bike came in at 9PM and thought I'd just gone cruising because he always looks for it.
12:16PM (now): My boss just called me and still wants me to come into work. FML. I'm waiting on the cops to come take this report. Will have pics up shortly. Thank you to MH and everyone else for your help but taking into consideration the condition of my bike with no plates, the amount of bikes being stolen from the Med Center in the last 3 months, and my luck thus far, I'm not really holding my breath. I appreciate all your condolences and efforts to locate my bike.

No shit. That's crazy.
I'm surprised a cop is actually coming out to take a report. Seems like they just don't care for the most part. With mine, they took the report over the phone and gave me a case number, and the insurance company pretty much started writing the check as soon as I told them. They knew better than to wait around and see if the police came up with anything.

There was a video where (San Diego?) police put out a video showing how easy it was to steal a bike. They didn't show what wires, but on a CBR it only took the cop about 15 seconds to hot wire it. They also showed on another bike how they could unhook the key harness and plug in their own to start it up and ride away.

If the cops can do it in fifteen seconds...

Low jack MAY get it back, but won't stop the theft.
Not sure I'd want my baby back after she's been violated.
@babymilo: Come over and say hi next time don't be such a stranger. You guys had a nice setup going.
@Green600: Thanks Daniel I'm sorry we didn't get to go on any rides together but I hope your family is coming along well. Right now I stay pretty tight on funds because I pay for my own rent, tuition, and all bills. That being said I cannot afford another bike as a full time worker and student.
Yes once I stated my basic info on the phone they just said we'll send a unit right over and was there in less than 10 minutes. Perhaps they are taking it seriously, or maybe someone already did complain before about these crimes occurring in the area. The cop was very nice and helpful, took all info, reviewed the tape, even asked to go to the garage where the bike was taken from.
Everything can be said about what to do when you're in an apartment with a bike, but you have to think like a thief. They are just going to take what they want, when they want. The best way is to just get full coverage. As costly as it may be, it's the only way you'll get compensated for sure and have a new start. Like Vegas said do you really want your bike back after someone beat the hell out of it? I actually already had a quote from my agent since I was moving next month to my new apartment that has less security and was going to activate it then. I guess everything happens for a reason. Whatever the case, although my bike might not have been pretty or fixed up, it was and always will be my bike.

This is how I fell. I'm getting him to email me the series of pics right after that where he catches my entire fall. Without him coming to check on me and talking to me later I would've believed that it was my fault. Convo went something like this:
Him: Hey you know you're not supposed to crash in front of the camera right? Are you ok?
Me: Yes I know and yes I'm ok haha.
Him: Well what happened?
Me: I'm not sure, possibly throttle control? It happened so quick I picked my line and entered it and I guess I let off the throttle for a sec upsetting the suspension and it just fell.
Him: Oh is that what you think happened?
Me: Yea that's my guess and that's what I just told Dave. Why did you see something else?
Him: If I show you you're gonna be really upset!
Me: No please do I want to know so I can learn!
Him (pulls it up and points to the slider): You lean like the level 3's but the only difference is you stay on your bike but they get off of it so they give the look like they are leaning more. However once you did accomplish that on this last session, your slider actually made contact with the track. It just slipped the bike from under you. Otherwise you were perfect.
Me: No wai...
Now I'm not trying to point fingers as it was always my intention to remove them ever since I bought the bike but never got to it (even though a few friends of mine suggested the same). I understand it was my fault for not doing so. But damn after passing tech with those on, all those sessions, and being watched by a personal instructor along with the overcrowded level 1 class, no one came up and said anything to me about how I could have been in danger? :confused I guess it doesn't matter much now but it would have been nice to not have crashed on my first (possibly only now) track day.

So no theft coverage? :( That sucks.
I hope you find a way to make it work to get another bike. Maybe even on a cheap used 250? But yeah, I know how school can drain your account.

You said your bike was stolen on camera. Are you talking about a complex camera system or your own private camera?
If a guy RODE it out the front gate. Do you still have your key? Cuz if you left your key in it and insurance finds out...yer screwed as they'll call it assisted theft.
Suck either way, duder.

Don't blame the sliders, you just needed to get your ass off the seat
AaronP220
06-21-2011, 12:50 PM
Yeah, but that's an amazingly long slider.
If you look at this picture...
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y270/AaronP220/_SPB3421-1.jpg
I'm in more danger of dragging my shifter than my frame slider. If my frame slider touches, it's because I crashed.
If I were the OP, and getting the kind of lean he does, the FIRST thing I would do is switch whatever he's got to some shorter Shoguns or something. Frame sliders are there in the event of a crash. Use your knee pucks if you wanna gauge lean angle.
floyd600
06-21-2011, 02:46 PM
The frame sliders he had are way to long.. they were like for stunting or something. not the normal looking sliders.
Aaron it was a complex camera system. I didn't leave my key in it. It's actually one of the few things I have left from the bike along with what I took off for track. Thanks for your positive comments.
Versatile, it was my first track day I was still getting used to the bike since I've only owned it for a little over a month. I didn't wanna go mad crazy and get off the seat yet. I just did what I knew worked to avoid crashing and just get used to being on a track.
Floyd is right. You can't even call those sliders because they really are intended for a cage or stunting. As I said I accept responsibility for not removing them myself. Spare me on the harsh judgements or lack of skill talk.

Wow sucks to have your bike stolen from your own home! Hope they catch that low life thief, i will be on the look out for spare parts offers popping out at local bike forums.
Aaron, great pic btw.
V thanks for understanding.
Jefe thank you sir.
Big thanks to Frank as well for being there for so long and supporting me. Some of my best memories of riding or experiencing the moto community was with him and I am grateful for that.
I'm going down to my office in the morning and requesting for a dvd copy of the perpetrator committing the crime or to see if I can at the least get some still images for our forum. I was standing in the spot 3AM last night just staring at the spot because I couldn't go to sleep. It is just the worst feeling especially when you know there's nothing you can do at this point.

Wow. And I thought your luck could only improve after crashing. Sorry man, that sucks. If you can post pics of the guy I'll keep my eye out for him. And people think I'm being paranoid when I tell them I will not ride my bike to work because I don't want it to get stolen. They just look at me like I'm crazy.

Have the police or insurance managed to do anything to brighten your day?
no not yet Aaron, haven't heard a thing. Insurance isn't going to do anything as I had it setup to start full coverage first week of July when I move.
I was thinking of picking up your Evo as a rebound kinda happy purchase. I've been wanting one for a while.

Hung it's John.. Wanna borrow one of my guns?
Will do Aaron PM me your # please.
Hey John welcome to MH man. Yea it would be fun to go shakedown the biker bar right over hwy 288 as I'm sure the thief couldn't have made it far with no plates, no rear tail light, etc. That's what pisses me off the most. I bet the bike is still within 2-3 miles of my place. The "ghetto" as some of you call it is not far from my door step.
BTW for pics I'm waiting on the apt manager to get back with me.

That's very sad that you have to worry about your bike being vandalized over there, especial if you've done nothing wrong.
Sorry to hear about your crash, and the theft of your bike. I'm glad your OK, and you weren't hurt in any of this. The bike is only material and can be replaced, Im hoping you get your bike back in one piece.

wow, i just read this Hung... That's terrible man, I hope you're feeling somewhat better about it by now tho.
And now I lost a track buddy too for the season prolly :angry7:
kib, yeah idk who broke my tail light but that was only the beginning for me...
Josh, Hao, thanks for the support. Pleasure knowing you gentlemen.
Kelly, hey, they took the rear front tire I just got from you too. Thank you for checking in.
Ciao, yea, I'm out. I'm glad we got to at least enjoy that one track day.
Simply has a point. The med center, although changing the world day by day with what is done here, is irrevocably diseased with poverty stricken individuals that get bored way too often. You can build up some of the most state of the art facilities, gather some of the most brilliant minds the world has to offer, yet still cannot escape some of the lowest scum of the world knocking on your doorstep. You try to do right and you get done wrong. Guess what? One day when said thief or family/friend of theirs ends up with some illness or requires cancer treatment, I hope they don't get it. Maybe then you may come close to feeling as I do right in this moment.
Every time I leave or come home now, passing that parking spot saddens and infuriates me at the same time. I don't even enjoy coming home anymore. Just driving around this area invokes a very deep anger and frustration in me. However, I know taking justice into my own hands would just be a viscous cycle that would never end.
As far as getting another bike, it is impossible. I worked and saved up for quite some time to obtain that one. I pay my own bills, rent, and high tuition costs. If the thief is on a level where he can read or see this, thank you for taking away my hard work, my stress relief; my bike.

Damn dude sorry to hear....
My Type R was stolen from my condo when I first moved to Houston because I didn't have a garage. After 2 days, I started looking for a new place to live, no lie.... it's hard. If they know you have good taste, they might come back for more of your belongings.
I hope they find it in one piece. I "bought" my car back from insurance after it was totaled because it was MY car, pride and joy, etc... I'm sure you understand.
The best thing for you to do is either get a garage, or get the hell out of that area...

This is said way too often. Why don't you go ahead and volunteer then? Someone always wants to suggest putting someone else's property up for sacrifice. Unless your willing to put your bike up, don't suggest it.
Joey, Bevo actually started something like this a while back but I don't know if they've made any progress.
Trish, I am so sorry about your ITR. That's my girl's favorite car and we plan to buy one once everything is good in our lives. I've been into cars for a long time so I know what that can do to you too. I cant even believe living in upgraded quarters such as a condo couldn't keep you safe. I have major respect for you for picking it back up from insurance. Everyone takes the B18C5, the red stitched interior, the 5 lug conversion, everything on that car is a work of art. I thank you for sharing your story with me.

***UPDATE***BIKE HAS BEEN RETRIEVED!!! :eek3:
A week ago Thursday around 10PM I received a call from HPD informing me that they had found my bike. It was located not 15 minutes from where it was stolen in the medical center where I lived previously. Police asked me to meet them on site to verify that it was in fact mine. I was at a friend's house studying and immediately went home to grab my paperwork and gear (it was high 40's that evening.)
It felt like I took forever to get there and it probably did since my friend got lost. Fourty minutes later we get there and thankfully the police waited. The street was so pitch black dark I couldn't even see anything when the officer asked me if that was my bike over there. He finally pointed the flashlight and up until I saw it with my own eyes I didn't believe it...there it was, sitting right near the side of the street.
There were 3-5 grown black men standing behind it and some women too but I didn't really pay attention. I just visually looked over the bike with my own flashlight and saw all the damage they'd caused. I proceeded to show the police my papers for the bike and he said, "Yep, that's it."
Of course, I had to ask; How? How the hell after nearly six months did they just find it in this ghetto of all places? The officer told me one of those guys had been riding it in the neighborhood, attempting to learn. The neighbors called in for a noise complaint and when the police came out to investigate it, they saw the bike and questioned him about it. He told them that a friend of his who was getting evicted gave him the bike because he could no longer keep it. It wasn't his but he was just using it to learn how to ride. Well cops noticed the missing plates (which I removed for trackday @ MSRH) and ran the VIN and called me! Busted.
Cops asked me if any of them looked like the guy I saw on camera stealing the bike. Unfortunately none of them did. He asked me if I still wanted to press charges and I said "yes fuck them all I don't care." He said he's giving that guy 4 days to release the information of his friend who gave him the bike or else he's taking all the charges and heat. Afterwards he told me I was free to go. I couldn't believe it; I even stumbled and said "What?" Cop then asked "Well don't you want to ride your bike?" I said "YES SIR!"
I proceeded to put the key in the ignition but it didn't work. I was following the wires they yanked with my flashlight when the cop asked one of the guys to come forward and show me how to start the bike. He reached down and said there's a switch hooked up. It bypassed the ignition thus you could start the bike with no key...assholes. I can't even describe to you how it felt to hear that thing fire up and idle. Of course my gauge cluster didn't work, nor did half my taillight, but I didn't care. Mechanically she's just as I left her. Oh, and they broke my damn gas cap too along with a bunch of stupid cosmetic damage and did burnouts on my new rear tire. They even used duct tape and spray paint to make the bike look different...but it doesn't matter to me. She was back, and I can fix all the rest.
Thanks to all my Moto friends, to HPD, and a special thanks to dumbass thieves for getting caught. I hope to see you guys back out on two soon.

Thanks to all my Moto friends, to HPD, and a special thanks to dumbass thieves for getting caught. I hope to see you guys back out on two soon.
Sucks about the damage, but a big "FK YA" for getting your bike back. I would be ecstatic.

So glad you got it back... for a while you'll feel like they took something from you, but once you rebuild it, those thoughts will leave your head, and you'll remember the good times! :D

That's fucking awesome dude!
I'm worried about someone stealing my bike everyday, even when it's parked in a garage and so it's great to hear that your bike was recovered as many are not.

Congrats man, that was very lucky indeed....
It's been a year and mine still hasn't been recovered, I wasn't as lucky as you.
Mine was also stolen near the med. center area, a complex called camden vanderbilt and the management were complete assholes about it, they wouldn't show me (or the police) the security camera videos. Thats why I moved out.
for sure you should give us the address were your bike was recovered. Who knows, other people's bikes may be there.... :angry7:

i honestly dont know what makes me happier. the fact that you got your bike back, or that someone is actually gonna fall for it instead of nothing happening. awesome news. :thumb:
Huge thank you for all the congratulations. I don't think it's even sunk in yet that I have her back. I do feel and know that I am incredibly, no, insanely lucky. She's been sitting secure in a friend's garage for now until I get done with my last exam and I can work on her. Some of the parts are already in transit but I'm not a baller by any means so it'll take a while. :topsecret:
Yanni, really sorry to hear about your loss. Like many of my other friends and fellow forum members, my passion for justice isn't stopping at just getting my bike back. I asked the officer to contact me once shit went down and I'd come back to verify/testify/crucify whoever the hell they found. He asked me to call back Friday and I just got off the phone with the Auto Theft Dept. He said today's a holiday so they are short handed and that I should call back on Monday. I will keep you guys posted on that. *My thoughts on why he wasn't charged immediately with anything was to lure out the real thief and perhaps unravel a better connection to get to the bottom of this motorcycle theft in Houston.*
As far as releasing their address, I don't see much good coming from that. That's funny you guys are mentioning Cadillac's on 22's because one of the guys there was scared and denying he knew anything about bikes when I asked him did he wire it...saying something like "You ask me about a slab I can help ya...I don't know anything about bikes." Sadly, the stereotype, however derogatory, isn't far off from the truth.
I could have unleashed on them when I saw them there but like I said it was 3-5 grown men, 3 black maybe 2 mexican, and 2 mexican women...I didn't know who lived where or if they were just being nosey neighbors or friends. Once I saw my bike it was like their heavy breathing and snarling comments didn't mean shit in the cold evening background. Only one of them said something to me and it wasn't clear over the bike idling but I replied and said something to the tune of: "Were you the one riding my bike? You know what, it doesn't even matter. I'm shocked my bike is still here. Let me tell you something. Five months ago someone took it, and I haven't been the same since. That person along with whoever else likes to steal shit deserves to burn. If you want to take the heat for that, be my fuckin guest." After that I just got on the bike, put on my gloves, and rode off.
My wish is for any and everyone that has had their bike stolen to have the same feeling I had that evening. Nothing on the bike worked except the headlights and the motor, but it was enough to get me home. I was so afraid I'd have trouble finding neutral or I'd get hit by some idiot. However, it was like an extension of me again, and the connection was reestablished: I knew the bike, and it remembered me too.

As far as releasing their address, I don't see much good coming from that.
The med. center area is notorious for car and bike thefts. If someone had his vehicle stolen in that area recently, it won't hurt to drive around just in case....
It's useless information to me personally, after a year it's pointless to keep looking.
But I think it might help someone if you would at least point the street block, no need to provide street number/ apt number or other specifics. No pressure though if you got your reasons.
Congrats, glad to hear you got your bike back. Perfect timing, weather is awesome!

Congrats on getting the bike back in one piece. As long as it's been gone I would have assumed that it would have been parted out or swapped to a different frame by now. I've had a turbo integra stolen from me so i know the feeling of walking out to your hard work and having it not be there. Glad to see a happy ending to this one.

I hope they get the maximum. Unfortunately the punishment is just a slap on the wrist, but hopefully not this time. I wouldn't be surprised if their "hobby" is what funds their dumb donks. Car and bike thieves deserve to burn, here and in hell.

Any updates on the thieves?
Holy old thread batman! :eek3: Unfortunately the conclusion to my story is not as epic as I would have imagined or liked. As cliche as it sounds, the perpetrator found with my bike did essentially receive just a slap on the wrist. I was informed he cooperated with law enforcement to release the name of the thief. However, it was something and I quote, "generic." The officers could not obtain a physical address because the baller ass thief got evicted from his place of residence before giving up the bike. In addition to this, the perpetrator had a witness that testified that he received the bike from said thief to learn on it and potentially purchase it. :wtf:
Thus, asshole is still out there. I'm sure karma and justice will corner him eventually. Natheless, we win some, we lose some. Overall I would consider we did win to a degree. We do have the bike back.
Three months now under construction and it's back on the road. I actually just took her to class. For anyone wondering, I do have correct coverage on it now and it is well kept. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon and continuing where we left off. :hello:
*Special shout out to Floyd600 for the long evenings lol.* :D
