It is a business in the fact that it has a management structure (moderators), patrons (posters and members), an owner, expenses, and, hopefully at least, a liability contingency plan.

It is not a business in the sense of having a money making plan.

Not all businesses have making money as their goal; MH is one of those businesses.

I support all shops be them a sponsor on this board or not and trust certain shops with work that i don't feel comfortable doing more than others. i gotta agree with some of these comments, its rediculous. its freaking sad when money ruins something good. why cant people be cool?

for example, yall know i used to work for cyclegear sharpstown, now i work a few blocks away at stubbs sw. if i dont have something in stock, and i know a customer needs it quick, i will send them down the road to CG, and i tell them to ask for tony or julie, its no big deal. in return i know they do the same thing, i have all kinds of folks needing OEM parts or need keys cut, who come by and say that albert or whoever from CG sent them to see me. its great. you see two business that could be shitty to each other, but instead people are being cool about it. it actually helps both businesses, and REALLY helps the customers get what they need.

same goes for tire mount and balance, CG wont take the rims off the bike, i bet they send someone my way if a customer cant pull their own rims. on the flipside if i have a customer that can pull their own rims, and they are only trying to spend what CG charges for it, i send them over there.

im sure if the CG corporate office, or my GM heard about this going on, they would freak out. they would likely make it a rule not to "send people busniess" because they are money hungry whores, which is totally stupid in my opinion.

our shop is really good at repair, its hard to find good knowledgable service (especially for seadoo which we are awesome at!) but i dont think our wrenches have alot experiance with race tuning, so if people ask about suspension i send them over to patrick for his famous $25 setup (which i will have done over there myself when get around to it)

i seriously doubt stubbs sw would sponsor, they wouldnt understand, it would take a hour just explain to them what a forum is. and i dont think they would even listen on the premise it would invlovle them spending money.

i couldnt sponsor for them, cause i dont own the place, legal issues etc.

i pm'ed sol asking what it would take to have a 1 line ad in my sig. im waiting to hear back. he allready told me the normal rates for sponsorship, and its very reasonable, but i couldnt afford it on my own.

itd be worth it for me to throw in a few bucks, cause i do make a little money off it (theoreticly) i make a 1% comision if i hit a 20k goal each month.

First off, just to clarify because there seems to be some innuendo flying around here, I have never complained about signatures, and no Charles, you're wrong, the mods and owner, get the EXACT same discount as EVERYONE ELSE on MH does.

What Chris said is correct, lots of us in the motorcycle business work with each other; I regularly work with NW Honda, Cycle Gear Greenspoint, AJ Foyt and a bunch of others. Joe up at Powersports in Conroe is my friend and we've helped each other out.

Now on to the REAL issue at hand;
Chris, the owner of this forum that we are all guests on, has decided for whatever reason, that promoting a business in your sig line without them being a site sponsor, isn't cool.

Maybe another site sponsor bitched, maybe it was a point brought up by other potential site sponsors. Who knows?

Compared to a lot of national sites this place is very laid back in terms of advertising, language, drama, etc.
In reading this thread, I find it hilarious that out of all the people bitching, whining and moaning, this only affects TWO of them, and those two; Chris and Joe, have been the most reasonable about it.

In closing, the point is;

A) if a site sponsor bitched, it's their perogative, that's why they're a sponsor, DUH!

i also asked sol about it, and havnt got a response, even though he was online for like an hour...ive also pm'ed him and dotcom asking for cards to handout etc...havnt heard anything about that either.

it just reminds me of how every two months someone asks for MH stickers and then someone volenteers to make some for free, and then they get threatened with being taken to court (WTF, for helping to promote a site!) and we hear oh, stickers are on the way, no one else can make stickers, cause they might make $2, just wait...

and everyone shuts up about stickers for another two months and then we do it again...:confused2

meanwhile if someone would just go to cafepress.com (i hope im not violating rules by mentioning their site) they could register with them, upload a few graphics and we could all be ordering stickers, shirts, hats, and all kinds of MH nonsense to promote the community, but again, it just wont happen because someone else might make a dollar off it. :BangHead:

I didn't read this thread very well but if the sponsors that pay to be advertised on here complained about the users that they are trying to reach with their advertising... well.. thats pretty stupid. I hate it when moderators say things like "well we let you post on here so you can't complain." If you step on peoples toes they will slowly fade away and make their own forum (they are free.. ) and then no one will want to advertise with you..
so thats defintely a sense of false economy.
If someone is just pointlessly spamming the forums I can see taking action based on that, but if someone works for or owns a business or has taken their bike there and been really happy with their service, and they are posting meaningful, helpful things to the community, who really cares what is in their signature?

other sites require you to have a certain number of posts before you post up in the for sale section...

in this case, arturo deleted pearson627's post because his signature did not comply with the sigs rule... plain and simple...

what i was calling attention to - was that the majority of pearson627's posts are hustlin bikes/parts/whatever...

selling/advertising on here is a privledge... not a right...

pearson - i know we've gone through this at least three or four times (about once a month) but again you can contact chris about setting up a sponsor's account - get your own section and not have to worry about these rules applying to your account/website/business/sig...

you can sell almost anything you want. if most of your threads are selling bike parts/bikes, then that throws up a red flag.

i erased his post because he was informed before to remove his sig with his racing team/company, whose majority of posts seem to sell parts/bikes. pearson and a few others are the reason that 'no-ad sig rule' was implemented.
