measure your chain slack in multiple places!

i never thought to do this, for some reason i always assumed that chains would pretty much stretch evenly. this is not neccesarily true.

my mechanic pointed this out to me, he said i had a "tight spot" in the chain. at first i thought he meant a sticky roller, but he showed me something totally different.

he moved the wheel to a certain spot, and showed the chain being pretty loose. he moved the wheel to a different spot, and then showed the chain being pretty tight.

yikes! :confused1 i had just adjusted my chain a couple weeks ago. i noticed i couldnt seem to get it quite perfect, but didnt realize why.

a stock 97 GSXR600 takes a 525 chain, my bike is heavily upgraded and has a 520 conversion. most of the miles on this chain were at the track, so this might be an extreme example of chain abuse, but i figure its a tip worth sharing to be a little more thourough when checking the chain slack, and know what to look for.

any of you advanced duders know what could cause this?
