When shifting my brother's '06 gsxr-1000 between 1-N-2, it will sometimes refuse to kick up or down a gear. This occurs mainly when the bike has warmed up. Now it will make a god-awful "grind-pop-crunch" sometimes when sitting in nuetral. We figure it was some kind of tranny failure, as this machine is babied-it's probably the only 1000 in Texas that hasn't been wheelied. He took it to a Suzuki dealer for service, as it is still under warranty, and they said that they thought it was a tranny problem also. Teh Suzuki tech line said that it is warped clutch plates and they need to be replaced- which is not covered under the warranty. But none of us believe that clutch plates are the cause. Think we can get Suzuki to pay the shop to pull out the motor and check or are we stuck? Anyone else have shifter prob's on their 1000?
My busa's tranny is fooky at the moment also. But that's because I suck at highway whoolies.

your so called "whoolies" is the reason your clutches are fried, not the manufacturers fault...

my clutch isn't fried. my 2nd gear shift fork is broken. My brother's 1000 has the alleged fried clutch plates and his front end stays firmly planted. Ans as for wheelies, I really don't think there are that many professional "wheelie men" out there. I like riding wheelies and don't mind paying when I break things.

Does it chatter when you engage the clutch? In any gear?
If not than I doubt it's clutch plate related. If you want, bring it by next week and I'll take it fir a test ride, no charge.

He lives in college station, but I keep telling him to come down here and bring it to yall. I don't know about chatter, it shifts good until its warmed up, and then its really hard to shift between 1-N-2. Ive talked to him since my first post and he says that his guys are going to yank out the motor tommorow, so I guess we'll see whats wrong then.
But hey, I could bring my busa to you and let yall have a crack at the 2nd gear fork.
I SAY IF YOU GET A BIKE THINKING IT IS ALL UNDER WARRENTY FROM END TO END YOU'RE WRONG.IF YOU JACK IT UP,AND TRY TO FILE A FACTORY DEFECT THEN YOU'RE ALSO WRONG.IF YOU WANT MY OTHER INPUT,YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY,IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT THEN TRY SOMETHING ELSE STOP TRYING TO BLAME THE DEALER ,FACE IT IT;S A USER ERROR,AND YOU HAVE TO PAY,SO IF YOU WERE BRAVE ENOUGH TO GET THE BIKE,THEN MAN UP AND PAY TO FIX IT DUE TO YOUR ERRORS..................................

You don't seem to understand that I'm talking about two bikes. My busa and my brother's 1000. Mine is broken from thrashing it. So what? That's not at issue. The problem I'm talking about is my brother's 1000 that he just cruises on. It's 6 months old and is babied. Now the tranny is f%$#ing up. I was just asking for input about similar experience or firsthand knowledge. I pay plenty for my toys and only bitch at myself.

My brother have a k5 1000 and he used to complain about hard up shift or sometimes it would get stuck and he have to force it in. Took it to few dealers and still couldn't figure it out. If they open the transmission they will charge. The dealer is always assuming that the rider is stunting the bike out. Not true. I haven't heard anymore complaints lately. This happens after a few thousand miles, now it has around 20k miles.

Okay. Im CashTown's brother from College Station. Just got the latest update from the service tech "beaner." Beaner is a nice guy who seems to knowhis way around a spanner wrech. He pulled the clutch out and tested the plates for warping with a feeler gauge, no such warpage, Suzuki Tech was wrong. He did find the what he belives is the problem. The furthest most inside plates are not getting oiled and are sticking when they are supposed to disengage. He said he saw alot of this on R1s and R6s a couple years ago. He said that he'd soak the plates in oil for a few hours and then that the problem was resolved. He seemed to think that a some point at the factory those plates just didnt get whatever oil treatment they needed. So the plates are out and soaking and tomorrow when its dry(er) he's going to test it out. He seems optomistic, so we'll see.
And its not babied, just not wheelied. I still owe too damn much to go wadding the damn thing, ive sent 2 bikes to moto heaven in the last 3 years thanks to cage drivers, so i tend to be a little guarded out there.
...at least i didnt blow out my shifter fork trying to bust 2nd gear highway wheelies...
