Sugar Land street race Sat June 4: 59 frontage

As I was riding my Kawa (safely) and stopped on First Colony going north bound at the Hwy 59 frontage road I saw a real show. The event was a drag race between a black Chevy coupe (1955?) and a dark colored sport bike rider. They used the public stop light as a signal, and peeled out in a cloud of rubber. Tearing past me in a sheet of flame, the Chevy was holding its own.

Both vehicles passed the local Methodist Hospital entrance, and went towards the very busy Hwy 6 intersection. The time was around 9 am, and I shook my head in disbelief. Cruising around Sugar Land I noticed the police out, likely looking for the pair, and they looked me over, but they ignored me.

Anyway folks: street racing is both illegal and stupid. If I had the chance to get the plates or better descriptions, I would have reported them. It blows my mind to see such events. I have only been riding a couple months in SL and been passed by bikes doing well over 100 mph on Hwy 59 and Hwy 6, more often than not with no helmets, etc and weaving in and out of heavy traffic. Death wish, or over confidence?

Before twisting that throttle, think. The place to race is off the street. I used to race snowmobiles decades ago and know the thrill---but, street racing endangers both the participants and bystanders.

I saw one break 120 on Westpark, racing... he locked the brakes, scraped a toyota before knocking over two bikes. His bike? The front didn't exist anymore, what was left was about 8 inches from the toyota.
