They said it on Tuesday. I would imagine that Japan will go nuclear within the next couple of years when this happens. I wonder if they will do an underground test or explode it on the surface and have a spectacular mushroom cloud for all to see. One thing is for sure though, the only war that we will fight against them in the future will be one mounted at the tip of an ICBM.
Discuss amongst yourselves.

I don't think they have actually tested one yet. They have reported that they possess they technology though. If they test this will be the first.

This is one country that we need to eliminate the threat, the potential for a conflict with them is way to great.

I agree with you but only to an extent.
I agree that this country is a threat and that the world is better off without them. I do not want to send troops into a nuclear North Korea for a ground campaign though. Not because I am a pacifist and I think all war is wrong, but because I don't believe that a ground assault will give us the outcome we are looking for.
I am also reluctant to do a preemptive nuclear strike without cause though. If they were to blow up Seoul or attack Japan, then by all means, make the North a nuclear wasteland for the next 1000 years.
We are not left with too many direct options. I would like to see China step up to the plate and take care of this one. I would even be willing to let them annex North Korea after an invasion, similar to what they did with Tibet back in the 50's.
Too bad there isn't an easy way to make South Korea an island.

Yea the test that they had conducted earlier this year was a long range missile test...and now a nuclear test...funny how we had our priorities mixed up when deciding where to apply our focuses a few years ago....

Ya, it's to bad Clinton didn't take care of this in 94. He could have focused on the important things.

I can tell you now that China won't be stepping in...they are like a big brother to the DPRK, which is another reason I believe we didn't, and won't in the near future, preemptively strike North Korea. A ground assault as you said before won't work because of the number of troops that would be required versus the number actually available due to other operations around the globe. It will be interesting to see developments over the coming months...

I have lots of them, but none you would probably accept. It's a shame that he didn't nip it in the butt before they went nuclear. Clinton chose a policy of diplomacy and appeasement which failed, and now we are left with few options.

I agree that China is unlikely to do anything. They want Formosa and will invade that island before they invade North Korea.

Ofcourse he did...I just prefer that people know what they're talkin' about before they offer it. Also, Clinton was just gettin into office in '94...so I was checkin what exactly he "dismissed" and when...all presidents "**** up"...just as long as the "good outweighs the bad", they are o.k. with me...

Clinton was halfway through his first term in 94. That is a far cry from just getting into office.

Seeing as both his preceding and subsequent peers chose to suscribe to the same "diplomatic approach"...it couldn't have been that bad a strategy. Also given that North Korea's nuclear program was such a pressing issue back in "'94", it should have been an even greater more paramount issue from "01" to the current. With that said, Bush felt that North Korea (with nukes) could be settled using diplomacy and Iraq (with chemical weapons, outdated btw) was worthy of invasion. Amazing...now back to Clinton, you failed to mention that he was addressing Iraq's illegal weapons program back in the early parts of his term. Next time consider all things going on around the world and were you president, which of those items required the most attention, at what times and in what order...
I have lots of them, but none you would probably accept...

I'll let you know now for the future that I will never accept "editorial's" as a source of factual information. Not to mention the pop-up that featured "Ann Coulter"...The only source of any merit was the gwu.edu URL, yet I dismissed it because of it's lack of any governmental source while citing a "declassified" document.

He officially became president on January 20, 1993...this is 11 months before the beginning of 1994...a presidential term is 48 months which is as you said before, a "far cry" from "halfway"...:keke:
Bush had 7.5 months to attack somebody like Bin Laden but you don't hear me blaming him for the attacks...

Dude agree with you, im a ground troop, Marine Corps Infantry, this is the absolute last place I want to go. But if we can keep them under control then thats what is going to happen, but I have no solution we always sit around and play out the different situations and try to come up with ideas but the only thing anyone can agree on is that if it comes down to an actual "conflict with N.K. then there will be alot of fields deidcated for servicemebers on both sides!

Yea they have the worlds 5th largest army and the worlds 2nd largest Special Operations force...ground is not the best option...may sound a bit cliche from me but again, I believe precision bombing may do a us a lil more good...good sniper or two for pyongyang n his govt buddies wouldn't be a bad idea either...

No need to be alarmed. As it turns out, the scare was prompted by a UN official who spotted Kim Jong Il reading the book:
