I just received a notice of lease violation.
Illegal Parking
Explanation: We were notified that your (yes they misspelled you're) parking your motorcycle inside your apartment. This is not permitted it is a major fire hazard and could cost you a fine from the Fire Marshall. Please park in the parking lot at all times. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
anything to do besides move out???

Go to the main office to inquire about the note!! I got one like this back in 1989, about a week after I bought a brand new Suzuki Katana. I had my bike parked on the door step under the stairs, and the first night I moved it into a space right outside my window, it was stolen!!! Inside job maybe??

move or get a storage unit or a good alarm and assault rifle

Unfortunately, even if it isn't a fire code violation (I don't know either way), the landlord is free to set these kinds of rules.

Contact the fire marshal and get confirmation.
If they say it's not valid, get it in writing show it to the apt management and ask them if they are going to accept responsibility if it is stolen. :-)

Just chang the lock on your door so they want have a key that's what i didn't too i got my house now i have a garage lol
It's not the cycle, it's the gasoline. It'll never be permitted inside a commercial property. The fire marshall will confirm it. Needs a garage.

Just buy adequate insurance.
adequate insurance doesnt replace the bike I love, it just pays me so hopefully I can find another one I love.
in short, adequate insurance isn't the same as preventing the loss.
Moving into a new apartment soon and this is a primary concern. =\

Times are hard. I pay 552/mo in rent. I couldn't find an apartment with a garage for less than 900. That's a big ass difference. I believe whoever snitched wants the bike cause I have a stock exhaust and turn off the bike before I get to the door. Never get home too late. Either that or just someone hateful.

downtown at the GRB every year during the autorama, the FM checks all vehicles before they enter the building to make sure the fuel is lower than a 1/4 tank and then they walk around and make sure you have disco'd the battery.
Again, all of the suggestions etc are null and void because the apartment property owner/manager does have the right to say they dont want it inside, the FM will NOT over rule them on their property for an issue like this.

it is against the law and you do not want fire marshal involved.

Franco, alarm and cable lock might be a good place to start. Under $200 easy.
It's definitely not fool proof but helps between now and your next move.

 I think storages cost ~20 for a medium one, thats far less than garages at the apt complex. I have my man's gun loaded, out the box, right underneath my bed ready for someone to try to steal our bikes. (I'll only fire if I yell at 'em and they CONTINUE to try to jack my shit, btw)
Wherever you move, you won't be able to store it in your apartment. Sucks but true.

If it's in a sealed container nowhere near a source of ignition, what's the big deal? I have more flammable shit in my kitchen. Btw It's been inside since aug 09 with no issues.

First, I doubt you have more flammable shit in your kitchen. second, your choices are clear, find new spot for your bike or find a new spot for all your stuff.

Okay. I'm going to move on from the assumption that you cook illegal substances because not too much is more flammable than gasoline.
:keke:
It is not even the gasoline itself but rather the gas tank vapors. Even a FULLY EMPTY tank or vapor drift from the exhaust can ignite from the other room once you turn on a burner (even electric!!), plug in spmething awkwardly, crack a wire, etc. Ventilation is the only protection from this. You have been doing this for some time now so your danger is DEFINITELY much higher with all the trace vapor buildup. You are taking this lightly and that's asking for trouble. Especially in an apartment where children live... many children.

NitroHonda, don't you think this is too wild to think that the vapor drift from the exhaust can be ignited from across the room by turning on an electric device and harm the neighborhood children?
Good lord imagine the tragedy in the apartment complex if he farts and there is an open flame in the house!
It's good to be cautious but c'mon, vapor drift from the exhaust can be ignited from accross the room and cause the apt to explode killing innocent kids?!?!

LMFAO Do you live in Eldorado Way?? I work for a property management co and my coworker brought a pic over last week and said, "do you guys take your bike inside sometimes?" lol
So she complained to management at El Dorado Way cause no one wants to lease the condo above because it's an "eyesore" going up the stairs. Maybe it's not you but I see you live in Webster.
I own a condo at El Dorado Trace and they busted me on that one too. Had mine in the living room for a week til they saw me rolling it inside one day. Had to lease out that condo. Garage is a must!!

Not too wild. A buddy of mine's a firefighter. Vapor drift is a very real but silent killer. I'm glad that i no longer share walls with strangers. The decisions folks make sometimes really are taken too lightly.

So all the condos with garages on the first floor and living room/bedrooms upstairs are dangerous? Is it dangerous to store a bike in an apartment on the first floor? I don't think so but hey,

My biggest worry when I lived in an apartment was what the dumbasses next door was doing. I was convinced it was a matter of time before I woke up at 3am and found everything burning around me.

Time to get a big boy job to be able to afford a real apartment.
LOL, I hate that I am creating a fire hazard because I am too poor to afford a garage.
Management is a bunch of dicks for enforcing the rules on the contract that I signed.
Hell, if I saw someone pushing a rolling gas tank into an apartment, I would report them too. I am not going to burn to death because someone felt like they are the exception to the rule.

No I'm not at El Dorado Way but I guess I can cross that off my list. My bike isn't under stairs, it's literally in my living room.

I completely forgot the Bradford has garages. Those apartments are very similar to mine as they once had the same owner. The Villas on Nasa would be a welcome upgrade too.

Bikes don't just randomly burst into flames. You're just another pussy that has to cry to management cause you're too much of a bitch to open your mouth to talk to your neighbor.

No but if a small containable fire starts in the apt next door on your wall, then moves over, bursts your bike into flames engulfing the whole building, then yeah it's not cool.
The stuff in my apt, and likewise everyone else around you is worth more than your bike, that's why those rules are in place.
I'm sure if you look in your contract it will most likely have a clause not allowing the storage of highly flammable liquids. Gotta read the fine print dude. It's always hard to work with apt managers too.

It doesn't sound like he'd get very far talking to you. So why bother?
I see both sides of it, but rules are rules. It's not like it's something that was put in place after you moved in, they just took awhile to catch you/enforce it.

okay..so after reading through all this crap...
the smartest thing I've read is the storage unit idea..
see about getting a SMALL storage space nearby. in the long run its prolly your cheapest and safest option..just dont broadcast where you live OR where the bike is stored.

If they do go by their rule and tow my bike for Illegal Parking as it's stated on the lease, then I have no reason to get mad. I understand that. But I was always taught not to just accept things without question. Yea, rules are rules but you have to think about why they are in place. Motorcycles can't park on certain sidewalks but that's probably because the sidewalk is intended for people to walk and you wouldn't want it cluttered. You know what I'm saying, there's always a reason. If I'm not bothering anyone, then I don't think there should be a rule against it. That's not to say I'm above the rules. I hope that made some sense.
I find this tread funny. you signed a lease agreement. somewhere in the lease it states in one way or another you cant park your bike inside. the rule doesn't have to make sense you agreed to it by signing the lease. stop crying and find a better place to keep your bike.
