Not sure if this is the right place...but I wanted to get a quick how to from anyone that's into spray work....

I have to new/used helmets in my possesion. 1 for me and 1 for the chick. I want to paint my helmet a flat black..and I dunno maybe a flat white for the lady....any idea's on how to? besides sanding and spraying?

take all ur hardware off the helmet.. i.e. shield.. removable parts.. liners.. etc..

lightyl sand it .. with 400 grit.. maybe even 600.. u jsut wanna brakethrough the clear coat... then primer it... then spray it...

dont get to friendly and try to get it all done in one sprayu.. cuz u will get a drip... drips blow.. take ur time... make it worthwhile

any suggestions on where to get the paint? good ol krylon or something else? I'm probably going to try it out this weekend.....I'm guessing hand sanding is in order...blah...what i would do for a DA....

DA will not work for a helmet. DA's are for flat surfaces, you will need to hand sand the helmet...

here's a few professional tips....
1. Remove all parts removable and tape up whatever cannot be removed
2. it is not necessary to sand the whole helmet, you can use a scotch-brite pad and scuff up all the old clear (if you must sand, get proper sand paper, and WET SAND IT!!!)
3. After you are done scuffing the clear coat, or wetsanding it (wet sand it with a 600 or 800 grit), use a degreaser and clean the helmet.
4. Use a tack cloth and wipe the helmet from any dirt or dust.
5. Paint away!!!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRIMER FOR YOUR PAINTING PURPOSE. If you primer it....you will need to wetsand the primer flat also. Primer's main purpose is to help flatten out waves/grooves or such in your current paint.

supplies you will need:
600-800 grit *wet/dry sandpaper or scotchbrite pad
wax remover and degreaser
masking tape
tack cloths
and whatever type of paint you decide to use

Nothing really, I mean it has it's normal wear n tear....however when I went to VA. Beach I saw a guy with a flat black/grey/white helmet and I thought it looked not only bad ass but different from everyone elses....soooooooo...I'm gonna try it out...

werd. if you read the manual that comes with the helmet it warns you not to do this. it even tells you cleaning it with certain things can weaken the integrity :eh:

FYI--I have a flat black helmet (with Harley logo stuff on it). It shows every little teeny scratch and ding. I was reading this thread thinking...HEY, I can paint my helmet high gloss black!! In other words, I don't really like it.
