In your garage. If you don't have one get a friend that does and bring beer.

I agree, do it yourself.

Here is an oil filter crossreference list.

Actually, somebody should post up a wrench meet. That way people could learn how to do a few things from the ones that do.

well the beauty of an oil change, you can learn it from reading.
1. place oil pan down.
2. remove drain plug (drain oil into oil pan)
3. replace oil drain plug. (add new washer like everyone never does)
4. remove filter.
5. replace filter. (o you can do this every other oil change, might as well do it every time)
6. add oil.
7. check oil.

its pretty standard. now if someone can show me how to rebuild cartridge forks, and even replace the fork seals on my dirtbike, i'd attend the wrench meet.

^ pretty much it for your standard jap wet-sump screw-on filter bike. plus you can simply just fill up those bikes to the 'full' line on the sight glass with oil. its more tricky if you have a dry-sump cartidge filter bike. :icon_bigg i always use a new crush washer and oring seal when doing an oil change.

take ur used oil / filters to an autoparts store...most of them will take it for free and recycle it.

hotnanas, to be honest, you'll find that there's very few people on this forum who acutally work on their bikes themselves, but there are some very capabale mechanics.

I was using Honda Pro in the Hondas and Mobil in the Yamahas. Motul is always a trusted standard.

We do an oil change and 21 point inspection for $42.50, parts and labor.
We change the oil and filter, we use Motul 20w50 and Hi Flo filters, lube and adjust the chain, adjust clutch and throttle freeplay, set tire presures, check brakes, lights, turnsignals, horn, antifreeze, charging system output, etc.
It takes about 30 minutes and we can typically do it while you wait.

On the odd chance you own an 04 or newer Aprilia RSVR/Factory there are actually TWO drain plugs.

+1 for R4 oil!!

I typically don't recommend running synthetic oil in most bikes until 6000 or 7000 miles.
Todays engines mostly use hard chrome rings with nikasil cylinders, which are finished very smooth.
Too much friction reduction and the rings never seat properly. We typically se a small gain on the dyno after a bike hits 6-7k miles because the cylinders are sealing more efficiently.

If your in the Dickinson area and need a hand with motorcyle work shoot me a PM. I've got a crap load of tools, including chain tool and mity vac, plus front and rear stands.
