Yeah, i read some others calling it a hoax, but seems its mostly true and the hoax part is mostly ppl pointing out statistical errors and this that. Even if IQ figures were wrong lets say, avg income figures, or the urban/rural state fact is not.
but ROFLMAO, none of the usual REPUBLICAN CHAMPIONS made an appearance in this thread!!!!:laughing6 :laughing6

Very interesting...and although I hate the possiblity that Texas may be in the lower end of the IQ scale on avg....I must say that there were alot of "geniuses" voting for Bush strictly on the basis' of either his political affiliation or the fact that their "parents were voting" for him...

This proves Mark Twains saying "there are three kinds of lies, lies, damn lies and statistics."

Without adjusting for the cost of living and standard of living, this is meaningless. Compare the average house in size and cost in New York City, Boston or Washington, DC with Houston and then tell me where you would like to live.

Yep...

I hate when I'm watchin the news (which is damn near all the time, even at work) and you hear about a poll that was recently taken and the anchor uses the words "The american people..." in conjunction with "believe that..."-what ever the poll suggests-...as if to say that based on the poll results, the entirety of the american public believes whatever the hell the poll suggests, yet I think to myself that I hadn't taken that poll n don't know anyone that has...

btw, for those of you that say that they've got "polling" down to an "exact" science. I call bOOlshyt because at the end of the day...I DID NOT -TAKE- THE POLL...

My IQ is much higher than any of those averages (as I'm sure many of yours are), and I voted for Bush. Further, I have two degrees in political science. I'd like to see those figures. I hate Bush though . . . so, if I had had any choice, I wouldn't have voted for him, and I believe he's been a rather poor president. SO . . . .maybe there's some truth to it.

AliceInChains02

polls have a margin of error based on how many people they polled. if they poll 5000 people on an issue the margin of error is pretty small

Well, it was either vote for a very bad hardly conservative candidate, or vote for a very bad VERY LIBERAL candidate. I came close to voting libertarian, but decided that MAYBE he'd do better than I expected. Next time I'm in that situation, I'm voting libertarian. I'm very conservative if that isn't already apparent -

Although it means me negating my own argument (kind of), i m with u on this one. marketing research is a lot of crap. most of these surveys, empirical data, stats, watevr u call them, r full of bullcrap. PERIOD.

having said that, its also a fact that most mostly rural states do have lower levels of education and hence lower IQ. they might have a bigger house and a bigger car (oops truck) than a yankee from up north, but thast doesnt really imply bigger brains too. its an established fact that IQ and education have a direct correlation and its also an established fact that states like texas, louisiana, missouri etc have lower levels of education that a state like rhode island or mass or delaware..correct me if i m wrong..

You're gonna challenge my guess with another guess? Here you go:

"The average annual wages of employees in the Southwest states ranged from $28,074 in Arkansas to $36,248 in Texas in 2002, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)."

"Among the 44 metropolitan areas in the Southwest, Dallas, Texas led the region with an average annual wage level of $43,000, followed closely by Houston, Texas at $42,712 and Austin-San Marcos, Texas with $39,540."

I myself am a Conservative, with that said...I am not Republican, I just happen to have grown up catholic and strongly disagree with a lot of the more liberal minds out there...aside from that, I really hope that we can get away from the "party" system and get back to good ol "best man for the job" political voting...

Polls used to be a good way of getting a "feel" for how the country was feeling about things.
Unfortunately in todays media controlled world, it's all too easy to manipulate results in order to promote an agenda.

Best advice I can give; get your news from non U.S. based media, or learn to read between the lines of both the liberal and the conservative media here.

As far as polls, make your own, post it in a couple of forums and the tally the results yourself, it'll be much more realistic.

a lot of non US based media can be just as biased as US media. like http://www.diariocolatino.com/
it's just human nature to try to see what you want. like catholics and their virgin mary grilled cheese sandwiches

As far as polls, make your own, post it in a couple of forums and the tally the results yourself, it'll be much more realistic.

except you'd be counting out the "people who aren't members of internet forums" group which pretty much means elderly...which isn't such a bad idea
