Aight...so I've finally received my integrated tail-kit from Hi-Tech Speed for my '02 Yamaha R1, but I'm having a few problems on the install. I've got an idea as to what the problem may be but I'm curious what more knowlegeable individuals may think. I began by opening the factory tail-light housing (which btw, was a pain in the ass:nod: )...this took HOTT MINUTE...but I got it off. After cutting the wires (as required per the directions given) and seperating the housing from the bike, I removed the factory board. After removing this board, I began installing the new Hi-Tech Speed board. Now I'm pretty sure the wiring is fine because I wired and re-wired the damn thing per the directions given while referencing the diagram.
After getting the new board mounted I had to splice in the factory cables. I noticed that the splice joints, atleast initially, weren't biting into the cables which I was sure would compromise connection integrity; so I stripped the tips of the cables in order that I may splice them direct to cable. After splicing in the left-turn/right-turn and their respective ground cables and connecting the other relative cables (brake, front, etc...), I decided that I would test to see whether or not the tail-kit was functional. While testing I found that the brake and left turn signal worked so I went to the restroom, re-applied the right-turn sig wire and tested again...all of a sudden the damn thing no-longer works :BangHead:.
Now the brake still works although only around 70% or so of the lights are on when it should be fully illuminated. One of the lights kind of buzzes instead of turning all the way on. The unit as shown on spyderraccing (http://www.spyderracing.com/02-03-YZF-R1-UFO-Light-Kit-p/ht-02-03%20yzf-r1.htm) fully illuminates when working properly and is fully functional. Currently, when I test the turn signals...the light will flicker once which means there was some effort to fire, but for whatever reason...it doesn't:gesture:. I'm thinkin' that this problem can be the result of a number of things: Insufficient power delivery, blown fuse, possibly -the wiring-, or a faulty led-board, among other things. I will offer that I did not disconnect the negative battery terminal, but I'm hoping that wouldn't be the cause.
Any ideas as to what the cause of the problem could be? I am speaking in particular to those individuals with a real, working knowledge of motorcycle repair and maintenance/electrics...(i.e. Patrick, Pete, etc...). Thanks in advance for your responses...
