View Full Version : first wheelie = smashed my junk

well, i pulled my first intentional wheelie today. i found a nice, secluded straight bit of road on my lunch break today and gave it a shot. i'm guessing it came up somewhere between 30 and 35 degrees for a couple seconds.
i came off the gas once it was up and the abrupt deceleration (sp?) caused me to slide forward and smash my junk against the tank. ouch.
so i just ordered some techspec grip pads - http://www.techspec-usa.com/gs/kawasaki.html
it seems no matter how hard i grip the tank with my knees i just slide around on it.
i'm thinking this will help me keep weight off my wrists, especially when braking with a passenger.

keep your ass on the seat and keep your feet on the pegs, and you wont slide around...

you should move all the way back in your seat.. that'll help your wheelie come up easier.. also give it gas as you come down from your wheelie so it comes down nice and smooth.

wear a different pair of pants and if your bike is washed and waxed when you did it that will explain why you slid but dont sit on the back you the seat for fast sit downs cuz you use your knees to stear the wait and keep it steady if your at the bottom of the seat it will sway from left to right and your really cant wip it around, just sqeeze your legs real tight and push your knee into and keep your body streight and your should be fine.
it seems no matter how hard i grip the tank with my knees i just slide around on it.

Tell your passengers to hold onto you while accelerating but otherwise to put their hands on your tank and they can support themselves that way. Believe me I used to go two-up all the time and the first few times with each person I always go through a list of rules-often with them on the seat behind me already so I could demonstrate
1. Don't be afraid to hug me (especially if she was hot)
2. look over my shoulder in the direction of the turn (this stops the counterleaners)-though you should also be wary of those who ride and want to 'help' you through the turn by hanging off.
3. Put your hands on the gas tank to help support yourself
4. No, your footpegs are those up there
5. Be careful of the exhaust.
6. Have fun.

After replacing a few sets of fork seals you'll get it right and then both your bike and your "boys" will appreciate it :icon_thum

I've never had that happened, but I'm adding it to the list of 'pre-flight' instructions just in case
