my dad has a 93 sportster 883. it has a lot of work done to it but he loves it. ive ridden it a few times and i like it alot. in my opinion its a great bike for around town. i don't feel that comfortable in its performance at hwy speeds especially for a long period of time.

if you're on a budget i wouls say get a honda or yamaha cruiser. you'll get more for your money along with reliability. my dads bike doesnt break down that often but i know when it does it costs a lot to fix.

:icon_thum 883'S are good if u wanna cruise 1200 is just for a lil more power even though the 883's tank is smaller as long as its a harley custom :notworthy

lmk how it wks out for u maybe we can go ridin someday

getcha one, you will love it, then later on, upgrade your motor to a 1200 motor for under 1k

yeah, thats what i was thinking...and the deal is with it, is its not so much a budget, but my dad is selling his 02 FXDWG and im throwing in a couple bucks and getting a 1200 for him and a 883 for me.. but im lokoing towards the 883 custom cause i like the bars, tank and foward controls

I have a '96 883--i really like my bike, but I don't have anything to really compare it to. I'm a new rider and this is the only bike that I've had. It has forward controls, I've lowered it and put new handle bars on it.....

My one piece of advice--if you do get an 883, get the largest gas tank possible from the get go. When I ride with people, we're always having to plan our trip based on my gas tank.

customs come with forward controls? I bought the 1200R because after the comparisons, I liked the 1200 R for the dual disc brakes up front, I liked the tachometer it offers over the custom and the 1200 has the buell xb heads and "W" grind cams which are the best performance heads and cam combo HD ever installed. I also had the dealer include the forward controls in my deal.
BUT....the new catalogue shows a 1200 upgrade kit to include the new heads for pennies. So, the good deal of the day is to buy the 883 and upgrade later.
With the 07's 883 you get fuel injection, and you get the awesome"W" grind cams. with the 06 883, you get a better price and can upgrade for pennies witht he new offerings from HD. I upgraded my 1200 to a high compression 1250 kit from Nallin Performance and am a way happy camper indeed:nod:

well the guy there told me that the sportster customs all had factory fowrard controls on them they also had the skinnier, taller wheel on the front. but quite honeslty, im not going to be too picky about it, if i dont find a custom, im not going to sweat it, cause i know ill change some things on it down the road. i will end up turning it into a 1200 but im just going to be happy for now when i get it, im just tired of having one thing after anohter go wrong on my old honda, and parts for my old bike are not easy to come by (i should've bought the magna instead back then :BangHead: )
