Debating on some armor..

I thought I had it figured out on what I wanted...but I just cant seem to make up my mind. I was looking for something with a little more protection for my back and for the chest. Ive been stuck between these two:

Icon field armor vest from Icon for $100:

or the Velocity Armor from Velocity Gear for $169.00:

The Icon is basically all I really need...but the Velocity Gear is a steal for all you get (The Lowest Priced Level 2 Armor In the World). Thing is, I can imagine I would be uncomfortable wearing from all that extra armor from velocity (arm and shoulder) under my textile jacket. :eh: One other thing, from what Ive found, the Icon is not labled as certified...but the Velocity is..

the people i know with the icon like it. the other one does look like a little much and probably is uncomfortable but i guess thats a tradeoff you have to make to be safe. just like wearing a helmet

The Icon looks like it would work fine under most MC jackets, but the Veocity might not, looks like the armor on the arms and shoulders would duplicate the armor in most jackets and probably make it difficult to move around.

I have a Joe Rocket textile Honda jacket. Im just looking to get a little extra protection for my back and chest area.

I've got the Field Vest....its pretty nice, and I like it and all. But its not very much protection. If you want a little extra protection its perfect. But if you are looking for a lot more, you'd be better off with the Velocity....Good luck with either.

what's the point of a field armor? You'll still get road rash like no other. Sorry for the noob question, but i am a noob

if i had that on the other night i wouldn't have rash ALL OVER my back,maybe in one or two area's

Yeah really all the Field Vest does is protect your spine. Its a lot like motoX armor, or atleast thats what it feels like. It you go down, you still will be skinned, but your spine and chest will be protected from impact...Not Recommended. But I only use my Vest for short rides under or over a T-shirt while riding in 100+ degree weather out here in the desert. I always wear my jacket at night, or at fwy speeds. I know its not a good Idea, but we don't always do whats best for us.
