hid's are illegal period. They are not DOT approved aftermarket. I have to swap in normal bulbs every year to pass inspection.
Whaaaa?
Ok, just aftermarket :thumb:
I did not know that, thanks.

well let me rephrase. Yes, they are still completely illegal because they are not DOT approved. Most inspection places ignore the fact you are suppose to have a high beam setting on your headlamps. Most people cheap out and get the single beam kits due to costs. Thus my statement.

any modification of oem lighting, including headlight aim, may be illegal depending on state. Changing the brightness of the low beam light can also cause the turnsignal/parking bulb to not be illuminated enough to be seen over the HID; another reason it would be illegal. Toyota Celicas had a massive recall for the halogen low beam bulbs if you recall because the turn sigs were to light.
Direct xenon/hid light wo a projector beam or cover over the bulb is alot brighter because the light isnt diffused by any method.
Factory kits use projection beams so the direct light is bend around the prizm. These systems also require self adjustment so when the vehicle drives over a bump, is loaded in the rear; the aim isnt raised to blind oncoming traffic.
Further effort is put into vehicles w directional lights(turns left/right while driving(cars.) If the left side headlight will be limited via programming/mechanically to not turn into the direction of oncoming traffic. If the system fails the light will turn off or not even come on at all to be safe for other drivers.
In the real world, the benefit of HID lights overweighs the illegal standpoints. Im a fan of turn signals so agree the sigs should be clearly visible w the HIDs illuminated.
Sounds like an awesome deal and great service :thumb:
