My bike started to idle funny....
i normally start the bike with the choke on so it idle around 3000 rpm. After a min or 2 the engine warms up and i turn off the choke. But lately, when i turn the choke off the engine dies. So i have to goose the throttle to keep the engine runing however when i release the throttle the engine rpm stay hight and very slooooowly comes down.
what do you guys think ?!

sounds like you have a lean running condition. Any time the bike is slow to return to idle, its running lean. Perhaps an air leak.. Possibly carbs need to be adjusted, fuel /air mixture screws. If your bike is not fuel injected. Hope that is of some help. Patrick at Motorcycles Unlimited can take care of you.

I would suggest that if you dont know what to do, let someone else who does. If your bike is fuel injected it coul be something else. Maybe throttle potentiometer, iacv idle air control valve. im not familiar with your bike though. 06 should still be under warranty.

ya foreal it should still be under warranty unless you bough it from a private dealer

I run a gallon of 110 octane with the rest of 93 octane from shell, it runs very well, doesnt hurt it, and it keeps the bike from having that idling problem.

most cars dont haev the high compression ratio as most bikes.

I think its gunked up carbs as well. It happened right after I filled the tank. The idle was set low, so I increased to 1200-1400 (per the manual) but the engine is still slow to return to idle. How do I clean the jets? I tried riding around to get the fuel to flush out any gunk and it did improve "slightly" but the problem still persists. I called the dealer Wild West Honda and Kawasaki, they quoted $200 and a week on the phone! Help me out here guys!

see if your carb boot is loose between the airbox and carb or between the carbs and cylinder. pretty common problem and an easy fix too.

More than likely just a little bad fuel. Buy some Siloo or other water dispersant for fuel at O'Reillys or Autozone. Mix according to the directions. It should get better.

use the highest octane you can get for you bike
higher octane = less performance, i would just stick with around 93

not for all bikes

lmao where did you get that info from? import tuner???:laughing6
thats why dragsters that run 4's in the 1/4 use top fuel or alcohol

they either have a engine tuned for high octane or run oxygenated fuel
but in your stock bike you will get more power from 87 then you will 110

back to my problem....:)
i removed the air filter to check for obstruction nothing there.
I started the bike and reved the throadle and the problem stayed the same, it would not return to idle quickly.
I rode the bike for severals days putting 50 + miles and the problem is still the same.
I will take it to a mechanic...
anybody has someone honest in mind...?

We've got a lot of experience with Ninja 250's.
If it hasn't been sitting up for a long time it's probably a simple fix. Bring it by and we'll check it out real quick.

First of all let me ask you this : Did this happen something like this : you ran out of gas, put it to reserve - then rode to a gas station, filled up with 87 gas. And then rode home, and then next day the problem started? Anything like that at all?
What ever you do, do not put anything but 87 in your bike. I cant lay enough emphasis on that, nothing but 87 should go in that bike, your compression ratios are less and only 87 will perform better. If you put 93 or something higher, your not doing any good to the engine, or the gas mileage or your wallet!
This bike is not fuel injected. And your idle should stay between 1250-1500 on that bike always.
If it is under warranty, go get it fixed through them. Give Kawasaki a call (713-783-3844) and give em your VIN number to see if it is still under warranty if your not sure and you bought it from an individual.
Basically from your previous posts, i take it you have collected trash in your carbs (but i think its too early for an 06) that's why i ask if it happened something like the above incident. If so all you need is a $100 rejetting of the carbs. I know a shop that'll do it for that much, but its a 2 cyclinder bike and almost any shop should be able to do it, but dont get ripped by anything over $150 of a job! :pottytrai
Hope all that helps.
