oh k this is horrible
I have an 03 r1 got it from a friend, it's been sitting for about 2 years.. I tried working on it myself with what "little" knowledge I have... I bought a battery for it and hoped it would start knowing damn well it wasn't going to start I just hoped. but anyways.... I want to get it started and running before May is over and I don't know where to start..... I just need help getting this bike up and running ASAP!! I'll supply beer liquor, food, barbecue, whatever the hell you guys want.. I'll pay but I tried posting this on here first because I don't have too much money in the first place to barely get this thing up and running.... and YES it needs a lot of work...let me know your price

If it has been sitting up I would pull the plugs and see what they look like. Probably rusted all to hell. Wire brush and WD-40 or go buy some new ones. I would start there.

just a thought but is the fuel petcock on the tank turned on??

I don't know if it's on, but when I turn on the ignition the fuel pump draws fuel.. does that help any?

and the plugs are a bitch to get to, would I have to lower the motor from the frame?
I have to head to work at the liquor store, if anyone has any inputs you're welcome to call.. 713-702-0900 Shaun

There is no fuel petcock on that bike and if you don't know how to get to the plugs then you may as well take it to a shop. I have seen the plugs rust up on several bikes that sit for long periods. Whatever....

Your bike do not look that bad. I would help you but I am in the process of restoring a Busa. If I finish in the next week, I'll shot you a pm. When looking for parts, remember e-bay is your friend.

Yeah I was hoping maybe after I get it fixed up painted and running good I'd get rid of it for a busa... but the 99-00 busa. most of the problems with the r1 though I think is mostly cosmetics which I bought everything already.. waiting on someone to get back to me on some wheels off r1-forum and it will be pretty strait looks wise.... getting it running is another story... i just have to do a major tune-up and go from there.
